Celiscar and Currie, in particular, earned their playing time and have (in my opinion) outplayed a number of upperclassmen that continue to nonetheless get playing time, so I don't really see the argument there.

Simon has been arguably our best defensive player this year.

Okay, no more prostate lines please.

To the OP have you ever thought that players get playing time because they are just better than those that don't? You mentioned Hinds, Dixson, and (http://ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=46...pid5892210) Price. Did you ever stop to think that maybe the freshmen and sophs playing are faster (Cubit has said that the D is as fast as any he's ever seen) or have better instincts? Maybe it's not a case of 'I'm gonna play my recruits at all costs' but that the recruits of this defensive staff better fit what this defensive staff are looking for on the field?

From the thread I linked:

As to your Q. I think that those of us not at daily practices don't see what the coaches see. Coaches constantly are watching, teaching and evaluating and they have some tough decision to make. It would be interesting to hear the coaches' perspectives on some of our younger talent. It does get frustrating and even confusing at times wondering why player X isn't seeing more playing time, especially if in their limited PT they may have made a great play or two.

Are you at every practice? Do you see what they see every day? Do you know what they want from the players? Cubit has been quoted as telling the defensive staff over the off season not to bring in anyone who wasn't better than those they brought in last year, and considering that at least one was recognized on the conference all freshman team that was a tall order, yet Cubit goes on to say that the defensive staff succeeded. I will trust the coaching staff to play the players who they believe give the team the best chance of winning come Saturday (short of any discipline issues). Personally I agree with DrDavis that you have a bone to pick especially as you have stated that a kid from your hometown has played here, and I'm willing to bet that he was an upperclassmen waiting his turn that got beat out by an upstart freshman.

Quote:We scored 45 points and had 611 yards of offense, that's 'BAD'? You're a noodle head.
Quote:He's talking about the Eastern game. 10 points. Pathetic.
Thanks :) Yes, I was referring to the Eastern game in that post. And against NIU it didn't show up... but against BG & BSU it certainly did, as with UCONN. In the end, our O has proven itself as potent -- and hey, I don't expect us to score 40+ pts per game every game, but putting up 40+ against BG & BGSU and 38 against UCONN, but then 10 against Eastern and 20 against an NIU D that would allow my old high school to score 14, is a huge huge consistency gap. Hopefully that's resolved!

But I do agree -- our D is the thing we need to worry about... they showed up against EMU and pretty much for BGSU, and definitely against CMU... they can hold down the fort well for several quarters but collapse for a quarter here or there that makes one scratch their heads. Thankfully against BSU, our Offense went toe to toe for that to make sure we won.

The season's not over yet though... if we win the rest of the games, it'll be a nice, content season, given the talent & expectations we brought to the table. A great season if we somehow make a bowl @ 8-4 (Mac has only 3 guaranteed) and win it, too. Or of course, luck bounces our way and we make it to the Mac Champ game...

It's all about Toledo now. We got time to prepare. It'd be so awesome if we stomped them....
