for the record, if he really wanted you gone, you wouldn't be posting now.

i'm inclined to agree with mlb about this:

skip the scout scalping and you ought to be ok.

Guess so Ex :D Although my HS alligence doesn't run too deep (didn't play HS sports). I only go back often enough to see my dad. Anyways, ever since Gregg hung them up, the playing field has evened out considerably, maybe advantage Wayne. Haven't followed it much lately though.

Centerville is a good school academically, and I am definitely thankful for that.

Welcome Ex 04-cheers

don't know what you did or didn't do ex, but i know that G_T_S has forgotten more about running a sports board than i'll ever know. and i know that he takes it personal when folks trying to sell something come over here and squat on a board he's worked pretty hard to make available to anyone, just so they can sell crap.

my view is really pretty simple: this is a UC Bearcat sports fan board. if you're a UC fan and want to talk UC sports, welcome, and that's true whether you have figured out the party line and toe it, or whatever. if you ain't a fan, but want to talk UC sports, welcome. if you want to insult UC, sell ads or recruit for something else, don't waste your time or ours.

i got it. my vote is you're welcome to post as a Bearcat fan. you're not welcome at all as a salesman.

run&shoot Wrote:Since I am a writer with Bearcat Insider (Tim Adams), I'm going to give one response to this thread.  I assume I'll be banned afterwards anyway.

If you know Dave Berk (owner of Bearcat Insider), you know the guy would never do anything unethical to anyone else's board.  That I'm sure of.

As far as the fee for "premium" information, I wish it were cut in half since about 50% of the monthly fee goes to the national guys/administrators who have provided us with very little IMO.  As far as the other accusations about scout.com selling information about members/visitors, I have no information to confirm or deny the charges.

One of the biggest reasons Bearcat Insider exists is that people see a need.  I do know that many college coaches think these types of sites can help with recruiting.  These sites have people calling their recruits asking about their school and writing stories concerning the player's attending their school. I know a college coach told me that he feels he would be at a disadvantage recruiting a kid if all the other schools had someone calling and no media showed enough interest to do the same for his school.  There are other schools asking people to start a site for them because they also see the value of the internet with recruiting.  Another useful purpose of these sites is providing exposure for athletes.  A parent of a recruit recently thanked me for helping to get his son's name "out there."

As a Bearcat football fan myself, I've often criticized the media over the years for providing practically no information about UC's football recruiting.  Basketball has been a different story in this regard, and I've chosen to stay out of that part of our site.

I've posted on this board in the past to share personal opinions, but  I visit less and less because of the McCarthyism of a number of the  more vocal posters, much like I saw with exbearcat's post.

I should include the fact that I'm helping Dave Berk without any compensation.  It's a hobby at this point for me.  If the site were to actually turn a profit in the next year or two, that could always change, but for now I enjoy trying to give Bearcat football fans information that I always wanted to get from the other media outlets.

Scout/Rivals is about the bottom line. They care not about the fan, but about the fan's wallet. I'm sure there are good Scout employees. I know a few. If you're one of them.. hey... welcome aboard. WACbbs is modd'ed mostly by good Scout people. (I bet that doesn't jive with the perceived view on your side of the fence that we obliterate any and all Scout staffers, huh?) Unfortunately for you, however, a field full of bad apples has ruined the impression beforehand of the good ones. There's a difference between posting your opinions and being a part of the Scout borg. So far you've posted opinions, and have a good history of doing so. When you cross over into exbearcat territory, that's when you get the Error 403: Forbidden. .... many content to shovel crap their entire stay here. Perhaps you should give Anthony (Scout; SJSU) a ring... he is the epitome of the awful Scout staffer, and it seems some Cincy Scout people are trying to replicate his behavior. For more info on Anthony... ask *any* WAC fan that has pretty much ever posted on WACbbs or the now defunct OwlZone.

We're tired of pushing the premium content. We're tired of the LARGE SCALE spamming here... explicitly and implicitly. Quite simply... this community was founded out of disagreement of how Scout runs things... their buisness model, the politics of how rating a recruit can relate to which school he commits to, and especially the treatment to the end user (the fan). It should be largely unsurprising that an extremely large majority simply do not care much for your product (Scout) and refuse to use it. It makes little sense to have goons come over and reinforce that notion by spamming and being a general pest. You would think those that have troubles accepting that reality would just stay on their side of the fence... but apparently that is too much to ask for.

Starting to wonder if this is a Dayton based UC board! 04-rock 03-wink

I'm from Stebbins (class of '80) back when our two big rival (lowercase "r") were Wayne and Centerville.

Re-read the statement carefully before assuming who I labeled what. And if you have a better word to describe the Anthony-types that have been coming onto NCAAbbs -- DO tell. Also, it must be nice to just throw in the garbage that entire post *except* for one line you misread. Can I claim amazement at "you folks" too now?

I read your post pretty carefully, GTS. Grouping scout.com people as "pricks" doesn't work for me, but your legions seem to think you're pretty special so I guess you're doing something right.

I won't be back, but it would be fun to see if you were that confrontational in person. I'll doubt I'll ever know.

mlb, I'll be in touch.

People,

I read all the boards, but do not post often. I am a member of Insider and if you had any idea the time, some of our own, put into this site, you should be embarrassed of the comments. This Insider site initially was geared toward football, which has pathetic locall coverage. However, the addition of a basketball writer, again one of our own, is making the basketball side very strong. No disrespect to this board, but it is a very nice basketball message board at best. That's not a flame, as I appreciate all UC sites (and have donated to this one). Now I'm sure if any of you would write atleast an article a night, go to camp events, take photos, do interviews, on your time.....I'm sure you would want to atleast cover your expenses. Anyway, I am not a writer for the Insider, but I do know the gents who run the Insider and they are classy die hard UC fans. By the way, these guys do publish a magazine, and I believe there is a disclaimer, if I am not mistaken, when you join as to the ditribution of Insider material. I guess someone must have forgotten to read it.

My two cents, 50

I don't believe there is anyone of the planet that would deny that following and reporting on college and prep athletics is is a worthwhile avocation.

I do question the organizations that some devotees attached themselves to. I seriously question any organization that states in their privacy policy that personal information is not shared with advertisers and in the very next paragraph states that they do indeed share personal information with advertisers (i.e., Scout.com). Moreover the official policy is that scout.com can ammend the acceptable use policies and privacy policies at any time without giving advance or concurrent notice to users of that system.

To be fair, scout.com is not the only site that follows that model. Also to be fair, scout.com is not as bad as rivals.com, although that is somewhat similar to an accused felon saying, "At least I didn't murder the guy!"

If scout.com works for you and you are happy with their policies and procedures, great for you. At the same time, it is not the right site or organization for others like me and members/employees of scout.com should extend the same courtesy to me that I do to you.

this sounds like it could possibly be another sales pitch.

uc 90, i'll assume for the sake of argument that you are not with scout and are just watching from the sideline and is sharing their opinion.

i'm going to guess that the reason why gts is so upset about all this is simply because it is highly annoying to try and run/publish a website and have other people come in, contribute absolutely nothing, and may have 50 posts and 48 of them just happen to be about scout/rivals.

everyone here has seen scout. everyone here knows what it is. i'd venture to say that everyone has been there at some point of time and will go there again at some point in the future. they don't need to be reminded of it fifteen times a day to know that it's there, nor do they need to hear people (who coincidentally talk about little else) talk about how great it is. they know it's there. they aren't going to forget.

i write for and publish a website of my own. when we had a message board, the same sort of things happened to us and it annoyed me. if people want to post links every now and then to something interesting, then fine. however, if they are on there again and again and again and again going on and on and on and on about scout/rivals and constantly comparing it to what you're doing, it IS annoying. the thing is, if i knew someone from my site was doing that on rivals/scout, i'd be pretty upset. you know why?? all you're really doing is annoying people. whenever someone hears about you're site, they are going to associate it with annoyance. that's what scout/rivals have succeeded in doing for a lot of people here. and to top it all off, it's not THAT good. in fact, some scout/rivals sites are down right pathetic and can best be described as a wannabe tabloid of sports where they charge money to see the tabloids.

Gents,

No, I am not with scout, but I have met the "Insider" writers on several occasions (games, road trips, etc) and appreciate the effort they put forth to give us news. I just was supporting their efforts, not the medium they use. My reply was in regard to the original post and for the most part I agree with both of you in regard to referencing sites on sites and privacy acts. So anyway........look forward to more of your debates in the future.

Go Cats!
