Schenley High School Property
Yinz guys,

There are reports that the now-closed Schenley High School is on the market. Couldn't track down a recent article, but the guys over on the Scout board are talking about it.

- It's an historic landmark so there is only so much that can be done to it (thankfully).
- Believe the asking price is $2M.
- Also believe a Philly development company is in the lead and could turn it into a multi use facility, i.e. commercial, lofts, office space, etc. IIRC.
- Problem: it needs anywhere between $35M and $70M in asbestos remediation; the estimates vary wildly.

My thoughts - let the Philly company buy it, remove the asbestos, and have Pitt sign a 20 or 100 year lease to use for classroom/lab/offices OR the sweetest dorm in the U.S. (already has a swimming pool, gym, etc.).

Just thought some of the Pittsburghers would be interested to know. Sorry I don't have any more information.
