College Football game of Chess, Big 12's move now
These past few days looks like a big chess match to me...
First Move
CUSA/MWC announce merger, forces Big East to announce expansion including teams from CUSA/MWC.
Second Move
Big East move forces Big 12 to tell Mizzou to piss or get off the pot so they can act prior to the Big East making any moves. Mizzou is announced to be leaving the Big 12 for the SEC. Big 12 can now move forward with expansion plans, including Louisville/WV.
Third Move
Big East reacts to announcement by quickly sending invite to Houston.
Big 12's move:
Now question...how can UT go back to the people that pay their bills and still move forward with inviting Louisville and WV??? Can they go tell the Texas legislature that they have just destroyed the Big East by taking Lousiville and WV...there by taking 10's of millions of dollars away from another Texas public school....Houston. Don't doubt the power of Texas politics in this scenario.
This is a game of chess, great move by the Big East to attempt to survive with the quick announcement of the invite to Houston.
Maybe this is why BYU to the Big 12 is heating back up.

This is Texas, Houston just doesn't hold that much weight in the state. Not enough to matter in this case.

So, do you think Texas carries this entire state? This place is fractured like hell! Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Houston, Texas Tech, UTEP, Rice, North Texas are all in the FBS. UTSA and Texas State will be in it next year too.
Have you done your research on Houston? We're considered to be greater than, if not on par with Texas Tech as a university in this state. Our potential is astonishing.

Hmmm. I have no idea how likely this is, but it makes a certain amount of sense. If we have actually invited Houston first before anybody else, then we need to ask ourselves why. Cougar here may be onto something, because, though Houston's always been one of my top choices, I figured they'd take a backseat to UCF, AF, Navy & Boise in this expansion game. I figured Houston would be invited, but I didn't think they'd be the Big East's first priority. If the news is true and they're the first ones to be invited, is it so impossible to imagine that the BE is attempting to make it more difficult for a TX-based conference to destroy another conference with a TX team. (Why not SMU at the same time, then?)

So is Baylor. But it was connections in gov't that got them in the Big 12 in the first place.
