UTEP will vote "no" on Texas- San Antonio, look for someone else.

We are one vote, if the rest of the alliance wants a bigger presence in Texas, then we will probably go along and get one or both of those schools.

I'm good with UTEP and Rice as our presence in Texas04-cheers. However IF our conference decides we need to replace 3 schools I hope the schools in the East let the schools in the west decide who they want to replace UH and SMU and the schools in the East are allowed to decide who they want to replace UCF. So long as the candidates are reasonable. Personally I would be good with 9 or maybe adding 1 team if they really bring something and get back to round robin play in football. We have been in a conference with UTEP for 6 1/2 years and as of today have played you all twice in football. Once in Greenville. I like all my conference mates but can't help but feel a little distant (not talking about geography) from UTEP. Granted we play this year and next but I wouldn't mind it being an every year thing.

I know, I know, this goes against what our AD wants. I like the guy (met him in person multiple times) but I don't agree on everything with him.

I would like that a lot too. 04-cheers
I have a feeling though, that since our closest fellow alliance member will be Rice, we might be shifted to a Western division or pod or whatever to help out in travel expenses. Thats just what I'm thinking and it might not happen. Hopefully we will be able to stay in C-USA for basketball at least.

Three winning teams since 1986. Sounds like AQ material to me.

Good for you. Considering that Memphis still owns the all-time series against SMU in both basktball and football, you're still not AQ material.

This just in: the past is immaterial. We've known that since USF was invited to the Big East last decade

It wasn't until I gave the letters on their shirts a closer look that I realized that wasn't UTEP. Everything about that picture screams UTEP, except for the letter "SA"

They had six 7-win seasons out of eight when they were invited.

Yeah, and out of those eight seasons, four were in I-AA, two were as an independent (against an LOL schedule), and two were in CUSA (only one was a winning season).

Look, Greggo, when it comes down to it the only thing that makes you AQ material is whether or not an AQ conference wants you (read: if their TV partner says it will add to the bottom line). Nothing that we fans on these message boards (attendance, basketball, football history beyond 3-4 years back) talk about actually gets considered. That's why SMU has been contacted by the Big East even though Memphis hired Tranghese to tell them that their football needed to be improved.

Don't hate the schools involved for trying to better their lot. Hate what the process has become.

Pretty sure you and I are on the same page as far as our feelings for this process.

I've long said that I wanted to be in CUSA and have this be an AQ league. But as long as this isn't an AQ league, we need to take anything that comes our way that is.

The process has become "a lot of teams thinking they're getting in and blowing a lot of smoke, but still not getting in."

We did it. ECU did it. Now you're doing it.
