Yep. Only chance to see the team before the season starts is "Meet the Trojans" on Tuesday Nov 1st. I believe on that date they are talking about a three point shooting contest and a dunking contest among other things.

Reminds me of what a professor at Rice University once said when my wife worked there. "If it wasn't for the students, we could get a lot done?03-nutkick

We don't need a dunking contest. Great way for a player to get hurt.

Maybe we should only allow the players already hurt to participate in the dunking contest. Nothing to lose. They're already injured.

Personally, I don't feel that fans have a "right" to attend practices. Practices are held to help the team get better. They are not for the fans. When they were open, I enjoyed going, on occasion. Really never got a whole lot out of watching players run drills, sprints, etc. If the coaches believe they can run a better practice without the distraction of fans being there, worrying about what gets put on message boards, etc. I'm all for it. If someone asked me, I'd recommend that they open it up, once or twice, when they are ready to have an actual scrimmage. With no Maroon/White game and no open exhibition games, it would be nice to see the team in action before the first game.

Open or closed practices are not a big deal to me, since I can't go anyway, but I just chafe at the whole "keep the fans in the dark" attitude of this department. That is one of the things that has most puzzled me about this administration. As a non-Fayetteville program, we really need to expand our fan base - get some enthusiasm - engage the fan base. We seem to try to do just the opposite.

I've never seen more folks at a practice than I can count on my fingers. And that's the fingers on one hand. I don't know if there's another DI program where a coach is as accessable as Steve is. Steve was there to great everyone at the door of last week's auction. He will be doing luncheons that are open to all fans. He will be at the Meet the Trojans event and will be friendly and talk to anyone who approaches him- no big donations required. I can't disagree about providing information to fans- they could probably do more on that count. In most cities, where you are the only DI team, the media will deseminate information for you- Obviously we can't rely on that here. Jeff is providing some of that service now. Most fans, who care, know about Jeff's site and will check it for info.

I like to go see how the sets actually work. I like to see where the coaches place the players in front side back etc. I like to see the bigs and their footwork. I like to see how the guards are coached to hedge on a big after the catch in the post.

I like practice and miss being able to go.

I understand the unwritten rules of practice and sadly some don't and that is why we cannot go.

The unwritten rule is stfu, stay out of the way, and don't post what you see or hear on the public board.

In talking with university folks, off the record, no doubt that's what caused the door to be closed.
