Nippert Stadium is being spruced up for our new Big East rivals this season.

New field turf (already installed and in the photo)
New end zone seating
New visitor locker room and a half-time locker room for the Bearcats (their main locker room is in Fifth Third Arena)
The building behind the end zone seating is the new student rec center and will have a restaurant overlooking the field and and a bridge/walkway to each side of the stadium.
The building in the upper right corner is the new Lindner Center with athletic department offices, athletic/academic hall of fame, training areas, sports medicine, etc.
There will be a new larger scoreboard with a larger replay screen. The one in the picture will be moved to the new baseball stadium.
There should also be easier access to the stadium and inside the stadium in many areas.

How many seats will Nippert have once the renovations are complete?

Is the new scoreboard going to have space for 3 digits on the visitors score?

Sorry, I just couldn't resist that one. An overwhelming urge overcame me and I officially apoligize to all Uc fans.

I read between 38000-39000.

Correction on the scoreboard - it is not changing, just the video board.

Well it was pretty awful last year and extremely painful to watch.

You have one more year to enjoy yourself and then UC will once again be ready for UofL.

Probably about 40,000 then with a Standing Room Only crowd?

That power plant behind the north end zone was demolished to make room for the new Student Rec Center (scheduled to open later this year, I think).

As for the seating capacity of Nippert. I believe the new north end zone seats will bump the capacity back to around 35,000.

UC fans, how tough is it to land tickets to football games? I'd like to go up there this year, but wasn't sure if we could snag media creds. If anyone has info on either (tix or media passes), I'd appreciate it.

I love going to watch football at Nippert. It is a great atmosphere, especially if there are fans at the game.

I wish I could help out more with your questions, but so far very little has been said/published/advertised regarding football ticket sales. Somehow I doubt it'll be all that difficult to get tickets for the individual games though.

the UC-UL game should have a decent crowd, especially if the Cards are ranked in the top 10 and the 'cats are 0-6 :D

I thought Nippert seated around 35,000 BEFORE the new endzone seating.....it looks like the new seating in the endzone is bigger than that pitiful aluminum seating we used to have? I assumed new endzone would add 2-3k to 35,000 taking seating to somewhere around 38k?????

I think 35,000 is the old figure before the original endzone seats were torn down. Now that the endzone seats will be back in, I just assumed the capacity will be once again around 35,000, although the actual figures could be more than that.

I've read in a few places that the new endzone seats won't add any capacity. I wouldn't count on the capicity being much bigger than 35,000.

I think the end zone seating area does look larger than the bleachers, but not significantly. Maybe an extra 1,000. Maybe.

Goin mentioned recently (w/in last 6 mo's) about lifting up the press box to put a western pavilion up. That would probably add another 5,000 easily.

In any case, we need to focus on filling the 35k we've got.
