These schools would not leave and form a new conference; in fact, it would be the other way around. The Big East is their home, after all, and there is no financial incentive to pack up and leave. If I-A schools want a new league, a new identity, etc., it would be outside the Big East name, the tournament at the Garden, etc.
How about a better question--if two more I-A schools were lured away by the ACC and UC and UofL were left with, say, Pitt, WVU, Rutgers, and USF, what then?

I still think Louisville would stay and then try to add football playing schools like Memphis or ECU or something to replace them.
I think that eventually the Big East will split to form an Eastern Athletic Conference of some type. I think the best case scenerio would be to get some current Big East teams to start playing Football on a D1A level. There is no good reason why Villanova and Georgetown can't, they have Pro-stadiums in their areas to play in. The profits would outway any investments. Throw in Memphis and you have a really strong all sports conference.

-- If such an occurance were to happen that would only increase the likely hood of a sepearion...aside from Pitt none of the remainig football schools would have any long term history with the bball onlys...and another raid by the ACC should only reinforce the idea that hybrid league cannot survive long term because of the different priorites of its members
-- If I were the commish in that situation...I would try to get temple back so Rutgers wouldn't be out by themeselves (and for hoops)....get Memphis and USM involved and have them be travel partners...and add on UCF if there football program is respactible...such a league would still be pretty good in basketball but you would have to kiss the BCS goodby

We would still be better off due to the better geographic rivalry potential. ANd other teams would be added to form a new league.
But I plan on enjoying the first few years in the Big East conference and I don't think any further major moves will be made anytime soon.
Again, I hope the conference leaders plan to show more patience than the message board posters are doing and give this new group of teams a chance.

What if we just throw in the towel and re-join Conference USA now. That way all the predictions about aligning ourselves with CUSA schools after the collapse of the Big East will be moot. We won't have to even worry about another ACC raid or what if this happens or what if that happens.
CUSA, will you please take us back now. Please make us bearcat fans happy and take us back.
This post is satire.

There is no chance of another ACC raid for the next five years. Even if the ACC did expand to 14 schools, they would be more likely to try to get Syracuse and Penn State than to take two Big East schools. I think people are worried about nothing there. Losing Syracuse would hurt, but they can be replaced over time.
The overall look and feel of a conference are more important to its survival than last year's football rankings. The fortunes of various football teams change over time. People put down Temple and Central Florida now. But did people feel the same when Paul Palmer or Daunte Culpepper were on the field for them?
People need to accept that Louisville and Cincinnati left the Deep South behind. They chose a future in a Northeastern conference. Trying to recreate the past doesn't help anyone. If the past was so great, changes wouldn't have been made. Fans need to move on in their new leagues and make the best of them.

We did not leave the South behind! You have to Accept the conference is called the Big East, not the Big North East! Any school East of the Mississippi River is considered in the East. UL, UC and USFL are in the East but not the Northeast!

Louisville didn't leave the "deep South" behind. The city went nowhere. We are hardly in king cotton territory, but we are southern. Cincy is a bit more Mid Western than southern.

Go home, Santa Fe. Our new conference will be fine. We will officially split in July, 2010, just in time for the 2010 Fb season. We may stay at 8 or add to create a 9, 10, or 12 team conference. The next 3 years (2005,-06,-07) will allow us to evaluate and decide who we want. This will give them time to make arrangements.
Our bb side will be as great as ever, and our fb side will be wonderful too. The ball is in our court now, and we intend to control the rest of the game.
