Price gets new contract, pay raise
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Associated Press
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Washington State coach Mike Price signed a new five-year contract Thursday that boosts his annual compensation by at least $100,000 and gives him an extra year for each winning season he posts.
New incentives, television and other outside revenues raise his $499,000 annual compensation to at least $600,000, athletic director Jim Sterk said.
Price is 75-75 in 14 seasons at Washington State.
"I'm really happy this is over,'' Price said. "I wanted to get it out of the way in August.''
Sterk and Price began negotiations before the Sun Bowl in January and hoped to get them completed before the season began.
Price's old contract was negotiated after the 1997 season, which ended with a Rose Bowl appearance. The new contract includes incentives for bowl appearances and increases in Martin Stadium attendance, Sterk said.
"We were very pleased with Mike's leadership and continuity in coaching,'' Sterk said. "This allows us to continue to build the program.
There are no penalties for leaving before the contract expires in 2007, although Price indicated he doesn't plan to go anywhere.
"This is a great place to be,'' Price said. "I love Washington State and I really like living here. When I retire, I would like to retire in this area.''

Well deserved for Coach Price. Glad to see he'll be staying in Pullman for years to come.
