Since we pretty much have our number 2/Notre Dame going to the Gator/Sun Bowl and our number 3 going to the Tire Bowl.

Now with us losing the Insight.com-(no great loss, too far west) and the likelihood of the Champs Sports going to the Big 10 do we go after the Independance or some other bowl. What are your suggestions.

I think the Indpendence bowl makes some sence since the Big 12 is pulling out.....more then likley they could have the BE #3 two out of four yrs

If it became available - the Music City Bowl would be a good candidate.

And i know it's not a warm weather location, but the Motor City Bowl actually makes some sense as far as location is concerned.

The Liberty Bowl has a potential opening. It looks like the Mountain West is leaving.

According to this morning's Ft. Worth paper, the Liberty apparently will wind up with an ACC team vs. CUSA champion, beginning in 2006. See the thread on the CUSA forum.

CUSA is lobbying hard for the Independence Bowl berth, obviously no one knows how it will turn out, but the conference has 7 schools within easy driving distance. The geographical proximity is the big positive.

CUSA would probably be more than willing to give the Independence a solid pic as well to get it. I'm sure at least a #3.

I would love to see the MAC out in Hawaii with a number #3 pick. Since nobody really travels to Hawaii you may as well invite the MAC.

Who is the other conference that is still tied to the Indpendence bowl? Is it the SEC?

Yes, the SEC is tied to that bowl and since I haven't heard anything regarding a potential SEC pullout, I assume they will still be there after next season.

Since the Big East can't get "northern" bowls then they need to focus on Florida and Atlanta

-- If the SEC has any influence with the bowl...I would doubt you will see CUSA tied to the Independence...I would think the SEC would want to avoid any "big brother-little brother" matchups like Bama/UAB or Ole Miss/Southern Miss

Jackson, I don't think that problem, bottom line, would be a deal breaker. The SEC may indeed have schools (Bama, Ole Miss, Miss. St.) that would have problems playing certain CUSA schools. Tulane and LSU, who will be playing annually during the regular season, would certainly have a problem meeting again in the post season. More often than not, those types of issues, which come up in bowl matchup decisions all the time, are routinely overcome by re-shuffling bowl bids among the conference's bowls. Every year you read news accounts of such horse trading involving bowl bids to avoid rematches of regular season games, etc.

Jackson, Where do you get this 'little brother' crap. I have never seen anyone who just makes things up on the level you do. The big east has a shot at the Independence....if the sec pulls out. If only the B12 pulls out CUSA will get the spot. IF the ACC to the liberty rumors are true that may knock you out of a chance at the Indy Bowl. IF the Indy sec team would have gone to the liberty instead that would have opened up another spot in Shrevport. That was my thinking weeks ago when I predicted a Big East spot in the Indy. A CUSA vs Big East Indy bowl is the only realistic chance the Big East has at this bowl. We'll see what happens.

And suddenly the SEC is CUSA's beyotch? Where on earth did that come from?

Yes, CUSA is actually in line to have a whopper bowl line-up if all things fall in their favor. And yes, the BE is in need of a lot of help in the bowl negotiation, dept. I hardly think that calls for such bravado.

And all this over Shreveport?! Sad, I say. Sad.

Here is the obvious point....there are enough good bowls for everyone. When the smoke clears each league will have a spot for most of its bowl eligible teams. The big East will have an attractive line up.....The CUSA line up is starting to look a little more clear

1. Liberty vs ACC #5
2. Independence vs SEC or Big East
GMAC vs MAC
4. Hawaii vs Hawaii or MAC
5. Ft Worth vs MWC
6. New Orleans vs SBC
*** Houston ve SEC (During years when B12 does not qualify a 9th team, which will be at least half the time)

A reliable source on Memphis radio said yesterday that the ACC-Liberty Bowl thing will not happen. I think the Liberty Bowl would be more interested in the ACC than the Big East. This leads me to believe that the Liberty Bowl is holding out hope for an SEC tie-in. I know that is what they really want. We'll see what happens.

In many years the ACC #5 might be as good as or better than Big East #1 or #2.
