USF is in a solid market, has a huge student body. They have TONS of potential. Sure they had a down year last season but now that they are a BCS school in time they will be awesome. The sky is the limit for USF.

I hope we split and go to 12 all-sports teams!

Memphis and UCF would bring bowls. The other two could be chosen at a later Date.

I know a lot of Memphis, ECU, UCF, Marshall etc fans are bitter that USF got the call...but good lord enough is enough

Exactly. It's getting old and tired. The basketball program was actually competitive in C-USA, having some 18 and 20 win seasons. The last few years they have fallen on hard times after Seth Greenberg bailed with the cupboard bare, but the football program is more then solid, save for the transition season last year with a young team. South Florida is fine. I mean, compare the success and attendance of South Florida to some of the schools entering C-USA this season that C-USA fan are happy about having, Rice, SMU, Tulsa, schools like that. And then consider how young a university and program South Florida is. Here is their record the previous 4 years before having a losing season:

2000 7-4
2001 8-3
2002 9-2
2003 7-4
Wow...I'm convinced. The Big East should consider themselves lucky that USF accepted the invitation versus waiting for the inevitable invitation that is coming from the ACC or SEC.

There's obviously been some confusion somewhere...CUSA is NOT going to lose it's bid to the LB as long as Memphis is a part of that conference. End of story. I do think it's very possible that the BE #3 could be the CUSA opponent.

USF was a good addition to BE......it's a great market, large school and has done a great job in maturing very quickly since the program is only about 8 years old.

Basketball is lacking but it's not like they were terrible every year in cusa....they had some middle of the road years and i can only see them getting better as they join the BE......this will help recruiting big time.

I think USF is going to be VERY good in football in a few short years. Basketball-wise, as far as state of flordia goes, it won't take much to be a player since Miami, florida, and flordia st. are not exactly basketball powerhouses.

LOL!!!! No one said that USF was so good a deal that the ACC or SEC were going to snap them. What most posters on this thread have stated is that USF in the BE does bring something to it. Once again i can understand the feelings of some fans from other schools that werent chosen to BE,All schools have something to offer including USF.Thrashing USF and trying to make it look like it had nothing to offer is childish. The BE has chosen USF, we are very happy they did and look forward to proving it was a good choice. It will all be proven on the field.
So lets stop mudsling, because its a done deal is time to move on.
Good luck to all

Definitely not great records, especially a number of the conference records, but they definitely were competitive and they weren't perennial doormats and losers like people have tried to make them out to be.  When you jump from a lower-tier conference like the Sun Belt, which is where I believe they came from, and join a power conference like C-USA in basketball you're going to experience some growing pains.  Look what happened when Miami originally joined the Big East.
First off, I noted that I can see the Big East taking USF for their football. I don't know how much more humility one could want after noting that.

Second, I applaud you listing the exact records. But No ... they did NOT go to the NIT multiple times in CUSA. Only once.
I know Cubanbull mentioned this, but just so you know...

2000 - USF loses by 6 at New Mexico State in first round of NIT

2002 - USF loses by 6 at Ball State in first round of NIT

It's part of a long legacy of underachievement that Seth Greenberg left behind in Tampa...

Seth Greenberg was a great coach...He is turning around Va. Tech pretty quickly. I don't think Lee Roy invested anything into S. Fla's hoops program....Seth was the fall guy.

Seth will be exposed shortly at Virginia Tech. His gimmick 1-3-1 zone and street ball mentality wore thin, and he essentially stopped recruiting once he was applying for every job under the sun for the last couple of years he was at USF. The Bulls were November warriors but always finished with a whimper.

Fortunately for the Hokie faithful, he ran less of that 1-3-1 last season, but time will tell whether he can get by at VT without his old staple. I feel reasonably certain he'll wear out his welcome after a few years there, much the way he did at Long Beach State and USF. The Long Beach State fans tried to warn us when we hired him and we wouldn't listen. Now the Hokie fans don't care to listen to us.
