Big 12/Big East Talking Merger
AP Source: Big East, Big 12 officials talk merger

Published: September 19, 2011 5:03 PM
By The Associated Press RALPH D. RUSSO (AP College Football Writers)

NEW YORK - (AP) -- A person involved in the discussions tells The Associated Press that school and conference officials from the Big East and Big 12 have been discussing ways to merge what's left of the two leagues if Texas and Oklahoma leave the Big 12.

The person, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk publicly about what is going on behind the scenes, said Monday there has been dialogue between athletic directors and high-level officials in the conference offices.

Syracuse and Pittsburgh have announced they will be leaving the Big East for the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Texas and Oklahoma are both trying to decide whether to leave the Big 12 for the Pac-12, taking Oklahoma State and Texas Tech with them.

Not suprising. I see this happening pretty quickly after the 4 leave for the Pac12.

I hope its under the B12 banner, because I'm sick of the non-fb schools

Yeah. If there is a merger I want a clean break from ND and the basketball only schools.

I don't know how quickly it will go down. Depends on whether Big 10, Acc, and SEC say they are done. If SEC announces a #14 and ACC makes announcement one way or the other the merger can happen pretty quickly. If not WV, Mo, Rutgers, and Uconn are all still left hanging out there, hard to make moves with that in place.

RE: Big 12/Big East Talking Merger
Best case scenario for the group as a whole is that Oklahoma and Texas stay in the Big 12, and WVU, UC, U of L, and USF all end up there.

Oklahoma
Oklahoma St.
Texas
Texas Tech
Baylor
Iowa St.
Kansas
Kansas St.
Cincinnati
Louisville
South Florida
West Virginia
TCU???
????

Wouldn't be terrible

Best case scenario is that UT is swallowed by a giant sink-hole and is lost to history. Then the remaining schools on your list merge to form the Big-12 v2.0

From the gallows humor department, I kind of hope the newly merged league is called the Left Overs League - the LOL. Because if you lose your sense of humor, you've pretty much lost everything...

If there is a merger, shoot and invite to BYU and Boise. Both have earned it.
