Good-bye Marinatto, Good-bye Hybrid
I am the last person to favor an end to the hybrid, since our basketball product is beyond comparison. But it's time to end it. If its existence is killing the conference, then it's time to let the conference die.
Marinatto's silence didn't even bother me that much. The public statements and mind games being played mean nothing, and I had confidence the BE had learned its lesson, and was being proactive behind the scenes to place the conference in a stronger position than ever. Boy was I wrong. Even before we split the conference up, Marinatto needs to be fired. Immediately.
I refused to believe the Pitt/Syracuse news until I had no other choice. It's a bitter pill, and forgiveness will be a long time coming. But our 7 schools combined with 3-5 Big 12 leftovers will be fine. We'll also be among the best basketball leagues WITHOUT the non-football BE schools.
Syracuse was never able to beat Louisville on the basketball court. I guess they just couldn't take it anymore.

funny,t he teams that supposedly have a problem with the hybrid, are going to the ACC, and they hop to have... another hybrid. so much for that being the problem.

I can understand your reaction to Pitt & Cuse leaving. However if things went down like it's being reported here, we owe no one an apology. I certainly hope all the FB schools find a good home in the new super conferences and I hope Providence rots in athletic hell.

Shannon, I've said before that fans of Pitt and Syracuse certainly don't owe anybody an apology. However, there's nothing you can say that will convince anybody left behind that what the administrations at Pitt and Syracuse did was effectively the same thing that Boston College's administration did as well. In fact, your chancellor played a major role in keeping the Big East from accepting a television deal that now imperils the schools being left behind. I understand the reason - looking for greater conference stability, ensuring a table at the top level for football, etc. - but that's exactly why Boston College did what they did. And if you want to say they were being open about it, why did Marinatto have to learn about it from media reports?
There's no two ways about it, Syracuse and Pitt (the schools/administrations, not the fans) literally took a page from BC's playbook and are now stabbing the schools they're leaving behind in the back.
