Well if Rutgers coach doesnt get can, i can see Rutgers-USF becoming a big game just because of all the recruiting and summer camps that Rutgers has in the Florida area.
But is too early for many games to develop as a rivalry since we havent played anyone for any period of time. I think being in close proximity helps in developing a rivalry but its not the only reason.
USC-Notre Dame is a rivalry
Tennesse-Florida is a rivalry
Virginia Tech- Miami has become a heated game that might be called a rivalry.
I think as the BE grows in years you are going to see rivalries develop between the top schelon teams

Whether SU fans want it or not, after they get their asses hand to them this coming season it will become a rivalry soon enough. I know there are plenty of SU alums in the CT area. In bball, there is already a great rivalry going between the two schools. However, the school UCONN fans hate the most is BC.

Actually I think new rivalries will form easier on the football side then on the bball side...at least in football the schools will play every yr..and if certain schools are competitve over a long period of time rivalrys will develop regardless of geography...I don't think anyone would have though Virginia Tech and syracuse would have had football rivalry when the BE begain...but they had something good going untill VT departed to the ACC

-- There is no chance for a West Virginia/Depual rivalry in hoops simply because the schools don't play

It is the fans that truly make a rivalry a rivalry. Sure the media may really play up a game into a rivalry, but if the fans dont consider a certain team to be a rivalry game, then its not a rivalry game. At this time, Cuse fans dont consider Ucon fb to be a rivalry game. If that were the case, then there would have been a lot more fans in the Dome the last time out.

Well the last time it was only the first game. CUSE was doing badly and UCONN is a newbie, so people have not had a chance to see UCONN football. At end of the season, UCONN was peaking while CUSE really went south. That Champ Sports game really did CUSE in. BTW, UCONN played the same GTECH team at their home and it was a little closer earlier in the season. Regardless, there seem to be great interest for this year's UCONN vs. CUSE at the RENT. I know it will be completely sold out and I think the game probably could have sold at least 55K worth of tickets. There will be a good game on national TV and I expect an UCONN victory in a big way. I really do think our RBs are gonna kill a lot of teams this year.

Pitt's decline in the early 90's was due mostly to a change in administration. The new chancellor was J. Dennis O'Connor herein referred to as dumb***. He decided that Pitt's admission standards for football players would be higher than the NCAA's requirements. Needless to say, this killed our recruiting. There were alot of local kids who couldn't get into Pitt who went elsewhere and shined. Charlie Batch, currently with the Steelers committed to Pitt and wasn't admitted. This combined with the fact that the University hadn't put any money into facilities in over a decade were the primary reasons we declined so quickly. Fortunately the Board of Trustees showed dumb*** the door, and our current Chancellor Mark Nordenberg recognizes the value of a good football program. We also invested millions of dollars into our new football practice facility on the south side, and the Petersen Events Center. The Steelers rent the other half of the South Side practice facility. I hated to see Pitt Stadium torn down, but the Pete is a huge boon for our BB program and the FB program will draw more casual fans at Heinz Field because it is much more accessable.Institutional support and putting money into the programs is what has revived both FB and BB at Pitt.

LoL. Yeah Uconn did play Georgia Tech a little closer than Cuse did, but Cuse did beat uconn, as well as BC, whom you guys lost to, so I do not see your point in bringing up the Georgia Tech game, whom Uconn also lost to. Unless of course, you were trying to be a nice guy and remind of that terrible game.

BTW, Cuse did not tank at the end of the season. We beat BC at the end of the season, but we were just inconsistent the whole season. We laid an egg in the first game of the season, and in the last game of the season, but we had some nice wins in between. :D

You do have a point. The cuse game last year was a Jackal and Hyde all season. I dont know what team will show up in CT, but I am sure it will be a good game on national TV. UCONN is going to play GTECH early this year, so we will find out real soon where this team is. GTECH has a very strong team this year and UCONN is very young and inexperienced. Hopefully, we will get better by the time we play CUSE. When the RENT gets to 50K+, it will be an awesome atomsphere for football games.

BTW, I hope all the BE teams schedule one PAC-10 game a year. It will be good exposure for teams to come out to west to recruit and play. Maybe they should do a BE vs. Pac-10 in football every year.
