RE: Southern Miss AD addresses realignment
If we happened to get picked/invited/what-have-you to a better conference, our main selling point obviously isn't market (even though we're smack-dab in the middle of New Orleans, Mobile, Jackson, and the MS Gulfcoast with a large contingency of fans in all cities), it also won't be our athletic budget (even though we've invested over 70 million $ in athletics plus NUMEROUS expansions over the past 10 years and more than doubled our athletic budget since '99 from 9 million $ to 20 million $)...our main selling point is WINNING - 17 consecutive winning seasons, 9 consecutive bowl games, and 13 bowl appearances in the last 14 years.

Not to mention, we've done more with less than almost any other school. I can't even fathom how much our athletic program would flourish if we happened to doubled our budget (which still isn't even avg for most 'aq-bcs' schools)...it would be absolutely unreal.

Oh well, that's my sell lol.

I love how the UCF fans on here are getting all bitchy over this. Like we just stepped on their territory or something, lol

It looks like USM AD copy and pasted a terry holland letter. He basically said "yeah I know we have no fans, but there are big cities nearby like Memphis!"

Sure thing, chief. Or it may be that you're a little lost on how television marketing works.

No.... Thats not even close to "basically" what he said.

It was an informative letter at time our fan based began asking questions on the subject. He has been quiet for the longest time, but he finally answered questions.

UCF may have the biggest naysaying fan base I have ever seen. You all just can't stand for another team to take the spot light on expansion from y'all. Chill out, everyone knows UCF probably has the best current package for an expanding AQ conference, but its ok for other people to talk about other teams in a positive light as well.

Why does this bother some UCF fans so bad???...I mean really, what is the big deal. If it is as big of a joke as you think it is then why worry about it??? Also he was doing his job and communicating with his fan base. If you guys like the fact that your AD keeps you in the dark that is fine...But I really do not see anything wrong with either approach.

You don't see anything wrong with lying about what television markets you can claim? Hmm...why am I not surprised?

So our AD says
"We enjoy strong coverage from Memphis/North Mississippi to Jackson, Meridian, Vicksburg, and to the Gulf Coast, New Orleans/Slidell/North Shore and the Mobile/Pensacola markets."

And what you get out of that is our AD saying "We own the Memphis market"???

Haha, nice... But I can see what you were trying to do.

Strong coverage in memphis and new orleans? LOL. I could understand if he said "we play teams in memphis and new orleans."

Fair enough.

Heres what your AD wrote that makes everyone LOL:

"This represents nearly seven million in the DMA market area, which would place the Golden Eagles in the top five DMA markets in the nation. This is very significant because Southern Miss can claim all these market areas cover the Eagles in print, radio and television on a daily basis."

So USM can claim all those markets, as I said earlier. Truly pathetic, its worked real well for ECU so I can see why he'd copy/paste terry holland's letter written last year.

You obviously know nothing about our coverage by that comment, so I'm done debating this with you.

First of all, love the expansion talk from non-players. I'm more of a nancy negative and think no one is getting out of CUSA anytime soon. Especially if the 4 16-team super conferences happen.

The bit about claiming markets long distances away from your school is a little ridiculous though. Should UCF really claim Gainesville, Tallahassee, Miami, and Tampa?

Just because there's a bar owner in Chicago who was a UCF grad and flies the UCF flag, I don't claim the Chicago market.

Either way, it gets me more fired up for the USM game, which will be a very very tough matchup.

I am not sure about USM's TV market claims...I did not see any proof to back-up his claims but to say that TH was lying or fabricating his claims is just wrong...Let me remind you that TH actually provided TV ratings information to back-up his claims...So just because you do not want to believe it does not make it a lie. And again...Why does it bother you so much, even if USM's claims are not true. Don't you think that a Conference would have the information available to them to make their decisions and are not going to just rely on claims from a school.

UCF has coverage in miami, broward county, jacksonville and atlanta. Im waiting for Tribble to come out with a letter saying our DMA is really 24.5 million, which would put us 20million above USM!!!!

Dude, I generally pull for UCF, and have always liked your program, but you are seriously making me hope that UCF crashes and burns its way back into the MAC
