Also, I don't think Illinois vs. NU at Soldier Field would sell out. Those games don't sell out in Evanston. The reason it did so well at Wrigley is because it's Wrigley. I don't think NIU vs. Illinois at Soldier Field would sell out either. I'd love to play them at Wrigley though.
Why would ND play at SF? Ahhhh how about because they get an additional home game without having it be a "home game." In other words, you have to play "on the road" some time. Why not in Soldier Field, a few miles from South Bend and in front of the Chicago alumni? The only question is, who do you schedule? Illinois would love the game. Do you do it with Illinois? If no one is asking, then it's not something ND needs to do. But if someone proposes it, and it makes financial sense, I'm sure they will do it.
Bingo. I wonder if Temple did a "2 for 1" to get the booking.

Correct

Then it's possible for us imo. ND might play an "away" game at SF.

ND might play a game in Soldier Field against Navy if it is a Navy home game. They've done this in numerous locations including Ireland next year. It would be a good recruiting tool for the Academy (not football specific, but including football too).

ND Stadium holds more than SF, so why would they want to play at SF?
So does Camp Randall.

Speaking of Illinois it will be VERY interesting to see who the new AD brings in to be the new head coach next season. Because there is snowball's chance in hell that Ron Zook survives after this season now that his buddy Ron Guenther is out of the picture.

RE: Illinois wants to play home game in Chicago
I think the right coach can consistently win 8 and 9 games a season at Illinois. Can Illini football be on par with the standard set by Michigan, Ohio State (cough), Penn State and now Nebraska? No, probably not. But that's okay because it is the basketball program there that has the loftiest aspirations. I'll say this too....Bruce Weber had better hope his fancy recruiting classes kick some bigtime ass in the next two years or he too is going to be kicked to the curb. He's an outstanding gameday coach, but his recruiting has always lacked. Now he seems to have the recruits that everybody has been clamoring for. Lets see what he does with them. Anything less than an Elite Eight appearance VERY soon is going to cost him his job. Illini Nation is getting pissed.

They have a major rebuilding job ahead in both sports, you will be waiting a long time, a very long time for an elite 8. NIU will get to a BCS bowl before the Illini make it back into the Elite 8 in bball.

Disagree. Illini basketball is one of the jewel jobs in college basketball. There are maybe 10 other programs that have more prestige, and unfortunately for Illinois Bill Self left to join one of those when he bolted for Kansas.

The new AD will have an outstanding level of interest from proven and up and coming coaches when the day comes Weber is no longer coach. It's a plum job. And now they are marching forward on building a new arena within the next couple of years to replace Assembly Hall.

It's not a major rebuilding job in basketball, there's plenty of talent already on campus and in-state, it pays well, and it's been a historically successful program. It's not like it's fallen off the map like Michigan did for a decade.

I don't think football is really a "major rebuilding" job at this point, either. It needs work, and I don't think Zook is the guy to do it, but it's not like it's Indiana or Duke.

Both could certainly be better, and I'd be fine if both head coaches were fired tomorrow, but nobody really knows what the new AD is looking for out of those two coaches and programs right now.

LOL uhhhh no. That program has hit a wall and its going to take a long long time for them to break out of it. If it was a jewel of a job they would have had Weber out of there a long time ago for a better coach.

I'm too tired...call yourself an idiot. Ron Guenther was NEVER going to ****-can Weber or Zook. And in the case of Weber he has done just fine with that program, but that isn't good enough given the lofty standards attached to Illini hoops. Anything short of a Sweet 16 appearance every season is failure at Illinois, and by that metric Weber is failing. Too many Illini grads (my brother in law and sister included) want Weber gone. The writing is on the wall and he needs a big season quickly.

Agreed. It's a very good job at a major school, but it's not one of the best 6-8 jobs in the country. That's reserved for places like Duke, UCLA, Kentucky, etc.

It's because your 22 years old. Get past Duke, NC, Kansas, Michigan State and a handful of other programs and Illinois is right there in the discussion of plum programs. Definitely so. Want proof? Watch what happens if Weber craps the bed this season and the new AD moves in a different direction. The new coaching hire is going to dominate the airwaves.

I just don't see it. Don't get me wrong, it's a good job, but one of the top 10? I don't know.

It's not. Depending on the timeframe the job is open, it's probably anywhere from 15-25. On occasion it can be higher than that (it would have been an elite job when Self left), but in general it wouldn't be that high.
