All the "proof" you need is to listen awhile and hear the "up and comers" lambast NIU at every chance. Every single one of the young guns on that station have **** on NIU at one point. And McNeal and Boers are merciless from their big chairs.

RE: Radio WIND 560
I'd rather be on a station that has heard of us than a Political talk radio station with a weaker signal (liberal or conservative). I'm sorry if some of you can't understand how sports radio works or don't know how to laugh off a joke, but DePaul, UofI, Notre Dame and Northwestern all take plenty of verbal jabs from The Score guys too, it's not like they pick on NIU. It's as much a comedy show as it is a sports show, and a lot of that is making fun of the teams they cover, don't take it personal, you especially WD.. you know better. I can understand MaddDawgz not getting it, but come on Whiskey. That's how sports radio works.

The Score has a great signal and is actually a sports station, this is like you guys bitching that we're on ESPN and asking to be on MSNBC, if MSNBC reached 30% as many people.

That is why they do it because the papas of the station like McNeal and Boers do it. They are kissing ass and mimicing them to move up.

I dont mind the WSCR issue, I just think it was overblown how big of an accomplishment it was by Phillips. I think it was a good move though, but we do pay a hefty price for it. Watch on Sep 17, NIU will be pushing on a game winning TD drive against Wisconsin that will shock the nation and WSCR breaks for White Sox pregame at 530pm. That will be just our luck!

WSCR broadcasts of NIU sports have anemic ratings. Nobody listens other than a handful of NIU faithful who feel sorry for Bill Baker.

WIND is a longstanding Chicago radio station with plenty of coverage area. We don't need to be radio broadcast across the friggin Midwest for crying out loud. THe 50,000 watts of WSCR are being wasted. WIND is PLENTY good enough and we can move away from this horseshit that comes with WSCR. Keep in mind that NIU pay s WSCR to broadcast.

Whiskey, not all of us live in the Chicago area. In anticipation of the Kansas game, I tried picking up WIND. No luck at all. That's why WSCR is good because it provides clear reception for many, many miles. Sure, their on-air people rip us, but they rip everyone. Deal with it. As for the Kansas game, thank goodness for streaming.

WSCR is a big time clear chanel sports station. WIND is not even comparable.

I wonder if U of I left WSCR due to complaints like this. They obviously determined it wasn't worth it.

Guenther had issues with it, yes. However, like so many of his decisions, the one to leave was terrible and short-sighted.

It is comical listening to him try to keep up with the pace of a modern basketball game. You got this ancient babbler doing broadcast on a 50,000 watt behemoth in a metropolitan area of 6 million?!? Good grief man. I hate sportstradio. But fact is WSCR consistently has some of the nation's highest ratings for an all-sports format. Yes I think it bugs the piss out of their primary guys that valuable airtime is being allocated to NIU sports. You have to remember that it is a business where the young guys have to pay their dues in hopes of a big break. Most of the staffers on that station get paid next to nothing....it's all about paying your dues for somebody like a Dan McNeal in hopes that he puts in a good word for you which leads to off-hours airtime to show your stuff. So guys like McNeal get crabby seeing NIU broadcasts clogging up the program schedule. I can understand that. But hey, I don't waste too much time listening to sports radio beyond a quick fix of Mike and Mike in the Morning on my drive to work.

I don't mind Bill Baker, but that post made me laugh for a few minutes and is up there with some of the best comical WD posts. I actually love that NIU is on the score though and think it is good when the casual listener will put on the score and hear the NIU game...possibly leading to a few more casual NIU fans.

I think that Baker, Lindo and Kahler do a great job with our football broadcasts and that we are fortunate to have them.

Have you ever streamed some of the other MAC play by play announcers? We have one of the best play-by-play announcers and the best overall team that I have heard. Miami has a good play-by-play guy too who I would like to see NIU try to get when Bill Baker does decide to retire.

Living in Columbus, Ohio I get to hear some of the tOSU radio broadcasts and I think that Baker, Lindo and Kahler are a stronger team than the tOSU broadcast team.

I agree, it is a great football broadcast, and his trademark "Touchdown...Northern Illinois" call really gets me amped! Now basketball game calling, that is where some of WD's points could have some validity. I feel like its treated as a TV broadcast and not a radio broadcast where you need to provide more detail.
