WVU Oliver Luck bashing Rutgers on national radio broadcast?
Interesting thread from RU Board...as no doubt the national radio broadcast had hours to fill in during the weather delay during yesterday's WVU-Marshall game.

Comments from a RU fan made it seem that Oliver Luck was trying to sell WVU to other BCS Conf...and in doing so, brought up Rutgers budget shortfalls as a negative as to why RU wouldn't be a good candidate to other BCS Conf like WVU.

See link to this thread (NOTE: Remember, these are comments from RU fans so they possibly could have taken Luck's comments out of context):

WVU AD Bashing RU?

Here's WVU Fans take on Luck's comments from their board:

Sounds like WVU is on the way out the door if they can get an offer anywhere. Honestly, publically bashing fellow conference members while trying to get out the door is in bad taste to me. That is the kind of thing that can come back to burn a person (not the school, but Luck in the future). People don't forget about that sort of thing and in a profession like sports admin you continually run into the same people.

I was listening to the broadcast, and I wouldn't call stating a fact bashing. Rutgers is in deep financial trouble, as is the State of New Jersey. He was merely using Rutgers as an example to illustrate how The BEast is still financially disadvantaged with respect to the other BCS conferences. Rutgers fans took it as a personal attack...

But due to all the discussions about realignment, and the continual assaults on The BEast over the last 20 years, I can see how people can get upset. It seems that everyone has thin skin these days...

WVU has a lot to sell...as WVU is a solid football/basketball program.

Only thing in question is was it necessary to WVU's AD Oliver Luck to throw another CURRENT Conf member under the bus while promoting the positives of WVU's program to a nationwide audience.

Or...if Luck wanted to use another school as an example of losing millions of $$$$ on their Athletic Program...there are other schools out there besides RU he could have mentioned...but I understand his part...as RU was noted as having the biggest deficit of any I-A program...that needed approx $27 Million in Univ subsidies to break even.

BINGO!

Yes its true...but should any Big East AD air "dirty laundry" about other Big East teams on national broadcast?

Should other Big East AD's on national broadcast bring up the fact that UCONN Basketball and WVU Football were recently put on probation?

Every school has "dirty laundry", one just normally doesn't hear about it from another Conf Member AD.

One thing that has been known for quite sometime...Oliver Luck will SAY whats on his mind...which is quite refreshing...but can be seen in some circles at not polite.

He wasn't airing out anything that wasn't already known. You were the one to point out that Rutgers lost more money than any other Division 1 football program, and you didn't get that from his speech...

Oliver Luck is a clown, he should apologize to Rutgers fans for his lack of respect. Would WV fans like it if the Rutgers AD start talking about Holgorsen's penchant for alcohol and getting kicked out of casinos late night for god knows what? It's just stating a fact after all.

jt, comments like that aren't worth worrying about. So why bother? Taking offense merely gives him notice, which is what he wants in the first place. Ignoring it is the better option...

Oh what, are you gonna start running your mouth about a certain drunken basketball coach?

Shocknawe hit the nail on the head IMO...an AD should not throw its own conference member under the bus, I don't care if what he says is true or not.

If you want to start on Cincinnati, the least you can do is spell our name right. It is CINCINNATI. Remember the team that beat you two of the last 3 years. Now go right ahead. I know it makes West Virginia fans, and apparently its administrators as well, feel better about their school's own shortcomings by bashing others. I see it on this board frequently. Bash Pitt, bash Rutgers, bash Marshall, et al. Do you guys have that bad of an inferiority complex?
