Dodds: Supports Big 12 but Pac-12 still a option
Kbohls Tweet:

kbohls kbohls Texas AD DeLoss Dodds supports Big12 still but said of Pac-12 possibility: "You don't ever close any doors." #ut

@kbohls kbohls

Texas AD DeLoss Dodds said ND is independent and is "not going to change that. I'd say that's not an option" for Big 12. #ut

We all know that that's where they're gonna end up eventually. Why don't UT, OU (along with TT & OSU) just move on so that the rest of the Big 12 can move forward as well.

The only reason people are talking about ND to the Big-12 is because Dodds kept throwing it out there! Guess it's time to walk it back.

They should just go and stop prolonging the inevitable. We could all move onto who is left behind and what conference they will form. The Big12 saga is played out.

RE: Dodds: Supports Big 12 but Pac-12 still a option
OU is the canary in the coal mine, for sure.

UT will keep the Big 12 together with duct tape for a few more years if they can (i.e., if OU stays in the Big 12) because they don't have an acceptable-to-them indy solution ready to go yet.

The question is whether OU wants to secure its future now (Pac-12 or, if they can move without OSU, maybe SEC) or whether they are willing to let the chips fall where they may whenever UT is ready to implement its indy power play.

If OU is ready to move to the Pac, UT might go with them.

Or, if UT doesn't go, the question is whether there is a possible expansion deal that includes OU but not UT that Larry Scott can sell to the Pac-12 presidents. As I've said a few times, an OU/KU deal would work for a 14-team Pac, but I don't know whether OU and KU can move west without their little bros, and while there's enough benefit there to justify adding two more teams to the Pac, there's not enough to justify adding four (i.e. OU/OSU/KU/KSU).

The Big 12 is almost done. As soon as they realize they can't lure any BCS programs - except maybe BYU for football only while they honor their commitment to the WCC - they'll read the writing on the wall.

Very interesting that this was said today.

Larry Scott likes KU. He was ready to slide them into the Pac-16 last year instead of A&M if the others were willing to go, and the Pac presidents had pre-approved KU as an invitee.

The losers in all this are the mid major schools who will be left out for good unless they get a real playoff.I read articles and you hear alot about the big 12 is in trouble. They still may survive with the leftovers ,and some c-usa teams.I do not care for the major conferences, and 16 teams is a crazy idea.I know its money driven but how has arizona, asu, and arkansas fared since they left their conferences? You have 2 division winners and one champion.I hope the big 12 stays together, and the schools will not go to the pac12,Sorry for this ramble its my 1st post.

Like I said.... I thought I read somewhere that KU is not tied to the hip with KSU. If Pac12 bypasses KU and take UT, TT, OU and OSU then I'm hoping for KU to Big East. I wouldn't want KSU AND KU... a state that has a population of 3 million with 2 BCS schools in one conference is too much. Its like Seton Hall and Rutgers.

Oklahoma isn't coming without Oklahoma State, and Texas can't seem to leave without Tech so those are likely the 4 schools headed to the Pac-12/16.

RE: Dodds: Supports Big 12 but Pac-12 still a option
Even if KU is not tied to KSU, the prospects for a B1G or SEC invite seem unlikely. Their path to the PAC would require either UT not going to the PAC or UT and OU going to the PAC together and ditching TT and OSU which doesn't seem like much better odds than a B1G invite.

Most likely landing spot is BE and I'm not sure a tie to KSU really matters in that scenario.

Does everybody else in Kansas know this, or is this knowledge limited to the KU chancellor? Because I'll bet UVA had no idea it was tied at the hip to VPI until the day UVA was instructed on how to vote in ACC expansion.

It's in KU's best interests to say this until the moment comes when they're proven wrong. Who knows what Kansas reality is... but I can't imagine that there isn't a good-sized contingency in KS politics that will work to prevent KU from leaving KSU in the dust.

The Big East fans refuse to get it but UVA supported VT into the ACC. The Governor's comments did nothing but allay the fears of the public and give politicians some air time.

I completely agree with you Small, and Kansas knows this. But they want to make themselves attractive. At the end of the day they are likely headed to the Big East along with Kansas State. People have speculated about the Pac-16 but Scott said a month or so ago that he had a regional television network setup ready for Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Texas. And Texas has said that they do not want to be an independent they want to be a part of a conference. Texas wants to be in the Pac-16. People think this is the start of the superconferences, I think this is the start of conference stability. A Pac-16 ends their expansion. The SEC grabbing A&M and Missouri ends their expansion. The Big East could add the Kansas schools and Iowa State (and maybe UCF and Houston as well) and we would be solid and strong, and stable. And the ACC and Big Ten are happy with their setup. And, good news as well, the MWC wouldn't be damaged this time around and may be able to add a piece or two (Baylor, Houston, etc.) or maybe C-USA can get more powerful.

Don't lump all Big East fans into this argument, this is you and a few fans. I have always thought that Virginia supported Tech's admission into the ACC. It gave them a regional partner and a powerful ally in a conference dominated by Tobacco Road.

Why do you need the Big 12 to move forward? Can't the BE just go raid the Big 12 and take the teams they want?
