Revenues up even more than the budget..
Quote:U of L’s athletic budget grew from $52.4 million in 2010 to $68.8 million this year. Revenue went from $52.4 million in 2010 to $74.9 million last year, an increase of 42.9 percent.

Makes sense, since UofL's revenue leapt far more than anyone else's, thanks to the new revenue streams from the basketball arena.
Good for you guys, while USF lags way far behind.

At least USF's on the board! UC's weren't available but I'm sure if they were they'd be very close to the bottom.

RE: UofL: Nation's Fastest Growing Athletic Budget
I wonder what the haters would have to say about this:
Conference by conference
% INCREASE FROM 2010-12 MEDIAN BUDGET
ACC 14.60% ACC $60.5M
Big 12 12.60% Big 12 $57.8M
Big East 11.20% Big East $62.0M
Big Ten 10.10% Big Ten $78.8M
Pac-12 9.10% Pac-12 $55.8M
SEC 8.40% SEC $90.3M
BIG East schools on average have larger athletic budgets then schools in The ACC, Big 12 and PAC.

Well, "median" and "average" are not the same thing.
Nevertheless, Big East revenue is on the rise, and comparable to revenue at some other BCS conferences, and that's surely a good thing.

With all the talk of who belongs in what conference, I could certainly think of worse times for this news to come out. From a business perspective, Louisville athletics makes more sense than the vast majority of other programs.

The median is the "middle number" in a sorted list of numbers. Example: find the median of {1200, 3, and 5}. The middle number is 5, so the median is 5.
The "average" you're used to is the arithmetic mean (i.e. where you add up all the numbers and then divide by the number of numbers). Example: find the average of {1200, 3, and 5}. So we set up the following equation as such (1200+3+5) / 3 = 402.667. Thus, the average is 402.67
The author probably used the median instead of the average because in conferences that have multiple outliers (think about Texas' and OU's budgets compared to the rest of the conference), the mean will be skewed but the median will be unaffected. In other words, a conference with one or two very high budget schools will give a higher average, but that is - probably - not representative for the vast majority of schools in the conference

If i were an AD at most other BCS schools, I'd try to learn from UL. You've really set the standard for what is achievable in monetizing basketball.

Easy. We sell bath salts and goats to one of our conference neighbors. Now if we start exporting mountain dew as well, there is now telling how high our revenues will rise (or how much lower dental hygiene in Appalachia will fall).
