Do you remember the time when we were told....
that Western Carolina would "be next" to drop football?? I think that might have been a direct quote... Well, all jokes aside about the condition of Western's most recent football travails...

There's a new sheffif in town...

“Successful athletic programs make it easier to attract students, to ground students and keep in contact with the alums,” Belcher said.
“It’s an important thing, and that’s the sort of (football) program I want to see here. A winning football program is a source of pride. Athletics is a front door for the university, and a losing program that struggles is not going to bring as many fans to that front door.”

AMAZING... ohhh the winds, they are a blowing...

Can we hire this guy?

People have no idea what the unintended consequences of dropping football are, especially those in charge.

And I remember, "we're on the cutting edge of a movement that will see large numbers of I-AA football programs going out of business".

WCU is in much worse shape the last decade or so than ETSU ever was, and, the new man is talking about fixing it, not dropping it. Will Stanton ever reveal the REAL reason he dropped the sport? Probably not. And, of course, it really doesn't matter anymore. Just hope the new ETSU man takes some lessons from the new WCU man and all the others who are now adding football. We need to be playing WCU, UTC, App State, Furman, VMI, Citadel, James Madison, Tennessee Tech, Eastern Kentucky, Old Dominion, et al in FOOTBALL.
