Presidential Selection Committee
Is anyone attending the presidential selection committee meeting Monday? We need to show up and let them know what type of leadership is needed at ETSU.

WJHL showed a clip of the meeting tonight. There were quite a few people there - maybe 50? mullins was there, and spoke (we don't know what he said), and the report said football was asked about, along with all kinds of other things.

RE: Presidential Selection Committee
Here's the JC Press account:

first search committee meeting

Note this phrase from the listed requirements:
"know the university and its various constituencies".

That *almost* argues too much for an insider to be named prez. That can certainly be a good thing (to know...), but it can also mean someone who is too close, has too many friends and/or enemies, and already has some sort of agenda.

Almost two months 'til the next meeting...

And nobody has yet applied for the job.....

I honestly think it will be an insider at ETSU also. I think that would be a big mistake personally, because they are used to the terrible pay and being without football. We need someone that comes in and is offended to have the lowest paid faculty in the country, and someone from a school that currently has football on a Division 2 level.

Agreed. Let Wilsie and Manahan and whoever (although please let's not consider Mr. Morehead St.) apply, and see how they all stack up with outsiders.

RE: Presidential Selection Committee
ETSU needs an outsider with big time visions and national contacts. No more 'good old boys network'. If an insider gets the job, you will see the same thing repeated over and over. You can forget about improving academics and athletics. Status quo will be the order of the day.

RE: Presidential Selection Committee
I had interesting feedback from Foundation people and a friend who just went (because she's tired of the Greeks peeing in her backyard on the Tree Streets and can't get the University to do anything about it) ( I know, off topic, bad Horse).... All in all.. the sentiments expressed from the alumni in attendance was a positive for football, one faculty member voiced his support for the return, and the Liberal Arts faculty just sat there hoping their salaries would continue to rise without football around (that's a tounge-in-cheek comment, BTW, really...really don't think their salaries have gone up since the evil money-sucking football was killed...that was reserved for the Athletic Department Staff's pay raises and country club memberships)....

I attended the forum and that was exactly what I saw.A postive for football I think. The committee now knows there is a large void at ETSU because of football and marching band. I honestly think we will get a good president that brings back football.

RE: Presidential Selection Committee
ETSU's Presidential Search page was updated with two candidates. One (Dr. Frank Robert - Kent State) does touch on athletics in his cover letter.

Presidential Search Page

I think Dr. Robert looks good with the right background. Kent is a state university with similar programs. I would want to hear a strong, public statement about a marching band and a football team before I will support any nominee. Since Kent has both I think that is a positive thing.

Most of the nominees are from medical schools or small colleges without football. Not a good sign. Dr Robert would probably be the best selection if we want to see football return.

On second thought...listen...i'll get your juices flowing and give you footballers the odds on favorite for the next ETSU President.
Brian Noland. Look him up. He was the runner up to DiPietro at Tennessee.

Brian Noland. Look him up. He was the runner up to DiPietro at Tennessee.

I mentioned Noland about two months ago to BuccaneerLover... Vice Chancellor at the WV Higher Education Commission, UTK grad, formerly at THEC... big buddies with Jim Powell from his UTK days, very big buddies with Governor Haslam... Good way to "groom" him for the Flagship. IMHO if HE ever wants to be in the big seat at UTK, he might just want to show that he knows how to navigate Athletics, ELEVATE Athletics, and CREATE with Athletics.

Given that he's in bed with Powell, the #1 Men's BB groupie... I'd be more concerned than pleased if he did end up in the job. Not sure Powell will play for the home team for football's return unless there's something in it for him.

all true. powell or not, ut is a football school. his detractors for the ut gig was he had no experience in fundraising. returning football to etsu would be a fundraising rabbit out of a hat...cause it aint coming back using the current funds...and it would be a great way to prove himself. imo

The new president will have to do something new and innovative.
Like.....Asking for money for football! Something I cannot remember happening.
