One interesting note. Mr. Shapiro stated Miami was not in the business of "buying" players. Said there was no way that Miami, as a private institution, could compete with the money being paid to players by the State schools in the SEC. Seems like he is coming "clean", about everything he did at Miami, to NCAA investigators. Seems like he would have no reason to lie about that. The most damning thing for Miami is his close relationships with several different Miami football and basketball coaches, and even with President Donna Shalala. No way they can deny knowledge of the gifts, parties, booze, cash, and prostitutes he regularly supplied to players

Some believe that this may be the beginning of the biggest scandal in NCAA history. With the Cam Newton saga, was there any doubt that the SEC is setting the pace in paying for players? The SEC probably won't get swept up in this, but Miami is probably going to get hit by a freight train.

I couldn't get the link to work, but I was going to mention Frank Haith from what I read on other sites. He seemed to right in the thick of it and real buds with Mr. Shapiro. And you made a big deal about Pearl having kids over for a barbeque. No alcohol, drugs, prostitutes, strip joints, parties on yachts, orgies in hotel suites, money changing hands, etc. (just burgers and hot dogs). Anyway, I don't have a clue how Mizzou is going to deal with this stuff gracefully.

The big deal about Pearl wasn't that he had a kid over for a barbeque. That's just how his apologists want to paint his fiasco. The big deal about Pearl was that he knowingly broke the rules, and then not only told blatent lies about it to the NCAA, but tried to get the kids' family to lie about it to the NCAA also. That's why he is no longer in college coaching. Not just because he had a kid over for a barbeque.
