I dont think that Rutgers will ever get to the next level with Schiano as their coach. On 4th and 4 and deep in Illini territory, he went for a field goal when the kicker was 2-5 for the day and the field goal was blocked. It could just be 1st game jitters, but I am not a believer in schiano.

well-said. Rutgers had this game, and they pissed it away. Terrible, terrible, terrible.

If there were a trophy for losing Rutgers would collect national championships. It's different then Temple, Temple just gets their doors blown off and never really have a chance. Rutgers FINDS ways to lose games. Creative ways to lose games. Unreal. If I'm a number of coaches looking for a job, like Rick Minter, I'm on the phone with Rutgers and sending out feelers because Schiano looked like a guy who knew he wouldn't have a job very long. Heck, I'd try and pry Jumbo Fisher from LSU. Fisher blew his chance at coaching at a BCS school when he turned down the UC job at the last second because he thought he would get the LSU job. Rutgers would be a nice consolation prize for him.

Nothing like a BE team blowing a game, and some chance to gain respect for the conference.

Yeah, I was about 95% certain RU's kicker was going to miss. And their defense is terrible.

I guess I won't say too much more, considering my team darn near did the same thing the other night.

True, but the difference, and the reason I feel so bad for Rutgers, is that they have been like this, for the most part, their entire history, including no success in the Big East. Everyone knows that UC is going to have a down year because of inexperience, playing 16 or 17 guys in the Eastern Michigan game who had never played a game of Division I-AA ball. But UC gave a ton of signs that they were deep and talented and wore down Eastern Michigan. Rutgers looked slow and thin and wore down at the end. That's what's so scary about Rutgers. Illinois, arguably, is WORSE then Eastern Michigan, and to blow a lead like that because you didn't have the energy to seal the deal. . .wow.

Suck it up Rutgers! That was a bad loss to a bad team. It's our first black eye for the conference but probably not the last. You guys can make a comeback next week. Good luck!

Rutgers should have been kicked out with Temple. there are at least 4 teams i can name in the C-USA that would have won that game. same old rutgers; does not know how to close out a game. i mean with the state of the big east they blow a 14 point lead only to lose by 3. yal suck. and i tell everyone that the big east is in trouble. i don't even care anymore. i would have just rather the big east lose their automatic bcs bid instead of the steady bashing we get because of raggy 4SS football schools like RU.

RU lost to a terrible Big Ten team. sad just sad. this is only the beginning. wv is next with it's young team losses to maryland and va.tech is coming. i just so disappointed in RU. With so many returning starters, Schanio sucks. rutgers will be lucky to finish with a win. Buffalo. Look for Vilanova to win. Rutgers will not win one big east conference game.

sad day for big east

87, let's not go as far as proclaiming doomsday. Disappointing as it is, it would have been a lot worse had one of the better BE teams done that.

In Schiano, I see a lot of similarities to former UC coach Minter. They have made strides to get competitive, certainly look better in losing (if there is such a thing), but coaching will never be able to get them over the hump.

Rutgers, with the NJ/Pa talent around, is a sleeping giant IMO. Just wish they could find the right guy.

The game shouldn't have been that close...RU should have been ahead 17-0 or 21-0 in the 1st quarter....that is just a horrible, horrible loss

Come on ABC crew, what about the mighty ACC. Duke lost to East Carolina, Wake Forest lost to Vandy, Navy is beating Maryland, Western Michigan is giving UVA fits, A&M is tied with Clemson. The only team that won was BC.

Pretty frustrating... to add insult to injury, the UI RB who did most of the damage was from NJ.

I honestly do believe Rutgers should leave the Big East, drop to 1-AA and go to the Patriot League while we prepare to rejoin our old friends in the Ivy League. We have no business playing major college football when we can't beat Illinois with the supposed talent we have.

Yesterday was bad, but don't give up. It's not like you're losing by 50 or 60 points anymore. At least you've achieved a competitive level. Now you just need the coach who can nudge you up to the winning level.

Yeah that might just do the trick for us. With a new coach at this point we very likely get over the hump very quickly, Schiano has done what he can and hes done quite a bit but hes just not the man to go the next step.

I agree. With all of that talent that Schiano was able to put together, a coaching change would take Rutgers to the next level.
