Carrier DOme Capacity for football 49,250
Like I said, it's time to get a bigger dome.

2010 attendance:

Syracuse was one of four teams that saw increases in attendance this past season. The Orange's average attendance was up 2.6 percent to 40,064.

You average 40 thousand in a 50 thousand seat stadium...You want a bigger stadium? I don't get the logic in that....Not trying to bash the CUSE but sounds kinda silly...I think the dome as it is, is a great stadium....You guys need a season ticket waiting list and then start talking bigger stadium. Thats logic.

Agreed...this discussion is a little silly. Cuse in no way, shape, or form can justify needing a bigger stadium.

Have to disagree with you guys here.
Exhibit #1- the dome opened in 1980

1979 SU attendance- 20,482
1980 SU attendance- 43,635

http://suathletics.syr.edu/sports/2008/4...dance.aspx

Where did those new 23,000 fans pop up from? Prior to the DOme SYR highest attendance was 33,242 in 1964. New facilities rejuvinates fan interest.

Exhibit #2 Louisville's new stadium:

The biggest jump in the Big East occurred at Louisville, which was up 56 percent to 50,648 thanks to a renovated stadium, a new coach and a much-improved team.

http://blog.syracuse.com/orangefootball/...ttend.html

Again the new facility and improved team sparks new interest. That's a 56 percent increase in one year. Credit that more to the facility than the improved team and coach. Louisville is predicted to finish 6th inthe conference this season. SYR is predicted to finish fourth.

http://www.docsports.com/2011/big-east-f...s-870.html

Last year SYR was at 40,000 with a 49,000 capacity. There has been an increase every year since Marrone was coach. We'll probably average about 42,000 this year. (If we beat USC I'll be even higher) Now is the time to plan a new stadium. Especially with the increasing interest in college FB nationwide, the need to impress recruits over the B10 and SEC facilities. You don't wait until you are at capacity to build a new stadium yo become proactive. We're close enough to make the jump, especially since new facilities draw new fan interest as evidenced by the expamples I've listed above.

Those 23,000 fans realized they didn't have to sit in the freezing cold any longer, Ottoman. Once they realized they could attend games without getting frostbite, they started showing in larger numbers...

1979 attendance is irrelevant. SU played ZERO home games in Syracuse that year. There were 2 games in Buffalo, 2 games in the Meadowlands, and 1 game at Cornell.

The last time Penn State played in the Dome was 2008 (after almost a 20 year absence). Attendance was only 45,795. A far cry from the 50,000+ crowds PSU used to draw in the 80's.

Notre Dame played in Syracuse in 2003, and barely drew 48,000.

If PSU and ND can't sell the Dome out, it ain't happening anymore.

You don't build a new stadium because you MIGHT come close to a sellout once every five years.

Louisville AD would disagree with you. They averaged 41,000 in 2005 and 2006. Dropped to 39,000 in 2007 and 2008. Dropped to 32,000 in 2009. Built a new stadium and are now at 50,000. Go figure.

Maybe that's why theyre' the most profitable franchise in the BE.

You begin planning because you're confident you're moving in the right direction and you know where you want to be- and that's not where you ar now. Averaging 40,000 in a 49,250 capacity stadium, and expecting to go higher this year, it's time to start talking about going bigger.

To give you some explanation on Louisville's numbers, we started the expansion plans after several years in a row with all season tickets sold out in the 42,000 seat stadium while also having several thousand names on a season ticket waiting list. As Kraggy drug the program down demand lessened somewhat, and then in 2009 the fans revolted with their feet. One thing AD's can't ignore is disappearing fans, and fans quit coming to let their feelings be known, so the last few games in 2009 were half empty. So the massive % increase in attendance last season was expected.

If building a new stadium was the magic cure all for attendance problems, how come SU hasn't maintained a 50,000 average for the past 30 years?

When SU sells 48,000 season tickets and has a waiting list, come see me about a new stadium.

SU is really getting aggressive with their tickets sales dept. They have called me several times in the last week trying to get me to buy season tickets. Maybe season tickets sales are up because of their aggressive marketing and sales.

Cuseroc or any other Cuse fans contact me offline about games available on the 40 yard line seats...I have two pairs of tickets in the FoodStamp area (end zone) and at the 40 yard line. The end zone seats are available to any fan here Cuse or visiting. They are actually great seats for the end zone as you are on the aisle lower upperdeck and in the corner of the end zone.

The 40 yard line tix are about $70-75 a pair but the Food Stamp tickets are like $30-35 a pair. The Rhode Island game is $25 a pair.
