Grutza Earns BIG EAST Honors
Freshman Earns League Player of the Week Award
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Dustin Grutza, who led the University of Cincinnati's season opening game win over Eastern Michigan, has been named BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Grutza passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third in the Bearcats' 28-26 victory. The redshirt freshman from Maysville, Ky., playing in his first college game, completed 17 of 26 passes for 176 yards. He directed scoring drives on UC's first two possession, tossing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Antwuan Giddens and connecting with Greg Moore for a 38-yard scoring play.
Grutza, who finished with 49 yards rushing, scored on a 21-yard run in the third quarter.
Elvis Dumervil, whose school-record six sacks and two forced fumbles keyed Louisville's 31-24 win over Kentucky, was named Defensive Player of the Week. Larry Taylor, who averaged 23.6 yards on five punt returns and had a 43-yard kickoff return in Connecticut's 38-0 win over Buffalo, earned BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

I'm telling you...this kid is going to have a GREAT career at UC....especiall if Dantonio can continue to recruit the good players out of the CIncy H.S. area like he did this year!!!!
This UC team is going to be a good good team in a year or two...I really think Dantonio is the best kept secret in college football right now.......hope he stays long term
Go Cats!!!!
PS: The UC fans need to put the Huggins thing behind them and move on....we need to say, Hey we are in the Big East...let's start getting behind UC Football and selling out the stadium!!!!!!
Basketball will be fine....especiall since it's been reported the Skip Prosser is interested in the job!!!!

I agree about supporting football, but it's going to be hard to put the Huggins thing behind us considering the way he was treated on the way out!

What an honor for a kid in his first start of his college career! Dustin
is a winner and will keep improving. He will need to be even more poised this week in front of 100,000 at Penn State. Go CATS!

Congrat Dustin Grutza and Cincy. The old guard let two of the new schools slip in there and get Offensive and Defensive players of the week awards. Another KY kid at quarterback. Proud of my state.
