Quote:Nearly 1 million cars pass historic Turner Field on a business day in Atlanta. Pretty soon, all of that traffic will go right by Georgia State University’s new football stadium, providing the school with unprecedented exposure and branding as it looks to boost its athletic programs.

Those costs reach $80 million and the purchase price of the stadium runs the total bill close to $100 million. The school does not plan to use state funds or tuition dollars to pay for it. Fundraising and revenue from premium spaces are expected to cover the costs.

On a side note, doing the math, I'd say that's impossible, even if it's surrounded by freeways. It would equate to roughly 700 cars passing per minute, which is ridiculous. Even if that's the rush hour rate, that's not the pace all day.
It does sound ridiculous to comprehend, but that 695 cars split between 14 or so lanes is only roughly 50 cars per lane per minute. During peak hours I'd wager it can be far higher than that (minus wrecks and other traffic impairments).

Yeah. That's the connector of I-75/I-85 that runs thru downtown Atlanta right outside our gates. The nation's busiest airport lies just south of where these two merge. It's the very definition of a bottleneck and traffic flow is enormous. Just remember that traffic consists of not only local residents but folks traveling south to central Florida or the Gulf side or into the Carolinas or all points in and above TN. That volume is real.

Yes, the downtown connector is ridiculous.

Sometimes my wife and I have to pick our poison even on weekends. Take 285 or 75/85 or surface streets? Sometimes the choice is between picking a 10 to 20 mph traffic jam over the one that is a standstill.

Yep...was driving from Kennesaw to Griffin over the weekend to help my sister move into UGA-Griffin campus and I immediately regret not taking 285 when I got to the connector.

As a temporary solution I think what has done works. GSU will easily have a better facility than Tech. The question I haven't been able to find and answer to is what the long term configuration will for the stands beyond the 1st base line cut out.

I think this has been answered a couple dozen times. There is currently no plan beyond removing the lower level RF stands.

That looks very nice. Panama do you know what the searing capacity is for the portions that will be open for Georgia St games? I know the former right field stands don't really have a purpose now but will the upper deck on the left field side be open (possibly just for big games?)?

It would be nice to see a G5 vs G5 bowl in this place. I'm thinking MAC/Liberty vs SBC.
