Exclamation WEMU Should we start a email/write-in for change?
Let hope that WEMU will implement a pre-game and post-game show. Usually they play their NPR content or smooth jazz right up until gametime and go right back to it about 10 minutes after the game.

And what was there to talk about after the game? But I beg to differ I have heard the coaches show before the game I think it starts 5 minutes before the game starts.

RE: WEMU Should we start a email/write-in for change?
I disagree, I think there a lot to talk about.
Pregame talk:
The current week game plan
Some conversation about the other team
What we did the previous game
Injuries report
Previous week game review
Game-plan for the day by discussing the defense and offense approach
Coaches conversation
Player conversation
Review of the previous week wins and lost
What's other team in our conference are doing

Post game:
Why did we win or lose
Turning point of the game
Conversation with coach RE
Conversation with player of the game
Conversation with the defense player of the game
Conversation with the offense player of the game
Next week game ( what the team look like)
Etc...

It would be great to listen to an actual pregame out at the tailgate. It would help the atmosphere and the tailgate excitement for the game.04-cheers

In a related topic, how does everyone feel about Andrew Wellock taking over for Rubick as the color commentator? I always liked Rubick's analysis but I think it'll be good getting an EMU "homer" in the booth.

i thought we were lucky to have sheppard and rubick. it was a good broadcast.

but, if we have to go without rubick, i'm glad to have a former player in the booth. it's cool to have the wellock perspective just a few years after watching him play.

Rubick did a great job. Enjoyed hearing him and Shep together, especially when they would get worked up by a bad ref call or get excited by an EMU victory. Rubick is a "homer" too. I believe he has his masters degree from EMU.

I am open to suggestions from all, how do we go about doing this? I would love to be able to tailgate before the game and listen to some EMU football beforehand... Please post your ideas on ways to make this happen...

RE: WEMU Should we start a email/write-in for change?
The change that is needed is the establishment of a radio network. In my years of following EMU athletics the only "network" they have had was a short term agreement with WDTW. That station now broadcasts University of Toledo sports. Just to have stations in Flint, Jackson, and Monroe would be a substantial step up in promoting EMU athletics.

Here are the networks for the other Michigan MAC schools:

CMU Sports Network Affiliates

Detroit 1270 AM WXYT
Grand Rapids 1340 AM WJRW
Houghton Lake 98.5 FM WUPS
Lansing 730 AM WVFN
Mount Pleasant 95.3 FM WCFX
Mount Pleasant 91.5 FM WMHW
Muskegon 97.5 FM WEFG
Petoskey 1110 AM WJML

WMU Radio Network

These station broadcast football/basketball/hockey games
Kalamazoo 590 AM/96.5 FM WKZO
Kalamazoo 1660 AM WQLR
Holland/Grand Rapids/Muskegon 96.1 FM WMAX
Lansing/Jackson/Battle Creek 94.1 FM WVIC
Hastings/Middleville/Ionia 100.1 WBCH

These station broadcast Bronco Update
Coldwater 1590 AM WTVB
Holland 1450 AM WHTC
Kalamazoo 1360 AM WKMI
Mattawan/Portage/Kalamazoo 92.5 FM WZUU
Allegan/Kalamazoo 100.9 FM WQXC
St. Johns/Lansing 92.1 FM WQTX

GVSU impressive has radio coverage

GVSU Radio Coverage Map

By comparison, EMU has WEMU. To my mind this is a major failure of the Athletic Department. One that has remained unaddressed for years.

Excellent points Dexter Eagle. We need more exposure on the airwaves.

Winning will do wonders for this team. As I've said before this year and next year is sooooooo important for the program and for RE and staff. I will contact the Athletic Department and get their view point.

This is EMU new Marketing campaign
http://www.emich.edu/truemu/

I spoke to WEMU Program Director Clark Smith (he’s a very nice man) he explained to me why the station cannot broadcast a Ron English show, or a pre-game or post-game show. The reason is because they surviving from public donations. Their main format is music and in the past whenever they had tried expanding more into the EMU sports slot, the listener dropped because of the product on the field/court. He suggested I contact the EMU internet radio station which is out of the library. I will try and contact them for their input and suggestions. I will keep everyone posted. I think a talk show will go a long way in marketing and helping with recruiting and putting “Butts in Seats”

I say bovine excrement! 05-mafia

Just WHEN HAS WEMU EVER "tried expanding more into the EMU sports slot"?!?!? WEMU is nothing more than a bunch of NPR smooth jazz hacks who have been eating from the EMU and federal government subsidy troth for decades!

Am I making myself clear?! WEMU DOES NOT SERVE EMU AT ALL! 05-stirthepot

EMU needs to pull the HUGE money they spend to subsidize WEMU and pump it into building a radio network. 03-banghead

WOW, don't kill the messager!

I was just sharing a follow-up thread I started. If this is excrement as you said. We should call into the station and ask why not and contact the school AD and ask why...

NUPudge - My response was not directed towards you at ALL! 04-cheers

It was my response to what you received from WEMU.

I found the WEMU response to be "bovine excrement"....their response is so poor is does not even rise to the level of equine excrement. 03-puke

Ron English does do a radio show on 1050 WTKA Mondays 6-7 pm during the season. Re-broadcast Wednesday as well as podcast.

Coach Murphy will have the same time slot during his season.

I agree we need a decent pre- and post-game show but that answer is complete B.S. but also speaks to the longstanding antagonistic attitude at WEMU toward EMU athletics. If they could, they would abandon athletics completely.

Stations like WAAM and WTKA have tried to pick up the slack but have not been very successful. I was a frequent guest on WAAM to talk about MAC football and basketball and they gave far more time to EMU athletics than WEMU would ever be forced - and I do mean forced - to provide.

The EMU Internet radio station? Are you kidding me? Please -- that comment further goes to show the looking-down-their-nose-at-athletics attitude at WEMU.

I am assuming that they are on the Internet also correct? If they have a link for the Ron English show, it would be great to have for the fan.

The WEMU website does not have even ONE hyperlink or mention on their main page about their coverage of EMU Athletics!
