Riley/Bryant/Harrison
Was anyone watching the EMU all-access webcast of the game last night?
I believe the announcer, might have been Chad Bush, 'digressed' into a brief discussion about the transfer sitouts.
The points I remembered were:
1). Riley: Could be a NBA player some day. [If I remember right Riley was injured part of last season and came on at the end of his frosh season, 'Cuse tends to have a lot of depth at all positions so backups can be darn good players.]
2). Bryant: Described as a combo forward (PF/SF).
3). Harrison: Described as probably the best of the three. [that surprised me. I thought Bryant might have the most abilities].
Can anyone else add to what I thought I heard???
It almost sounds like Riley starts at center, Bryant at PF, Harrison at SF, Thompson at SG, and Harper at PG next year.
Harris and Balkema off the bench up front with Sims in the back court.
That's still a nucleus of eight. Plenty of room for a JUCO or two who can step in and play minutes from game one.

That's what I heard too. Didn't hear Bush talk about line-ups though. Kinda funny that the webcast was interupted for awhile because a player had ran into a computer on press row and killed the power.
BTW, Bush does a really nice job.

RE: Riley/Bryant/Harrison
Sorry about the confusion on the prospective lineup.
That was my addendum. It wasn't Chad's comments.
This is starting to remind me of '11 EMU FB where all of the JUCOs, transfer situouts, redshirts, true frosh, etc. adding a tremendous amount of new talent to the 2-deeps.

I've watched a few practices this year and I have posted that the starters next year will be Harper, Thompson, Riley, Harrison, and Bryant. If you've been to a practice, it's kind of a no-brainer. I too feel (and have posted) that Harrison may be the best of the bunch.
As for Riley, if your 7'0" with potential, you have an excellent chance to make an NBA roster simply because there aren't that many 7 footers around anymore. Kind of like a good lefthanded pitcher in baseball. Riley reminds Keith Benson of Oakland University, if he keeps improving, he could be a real force in the MAC.

Thanks and this is why fans shouldn't just go out to the Internet and say 'how many stars did Harrison get from Rivals?' or whatever.
There are press clippings (or should I say scouting service stories) and actually doing something on the court or practice court.
Showing ability in practice is something which is empirical and very meaningful.
One caveat: Big men typically develop slowly unless they are a Shaq. Zeke Marshall (Akron) is finally coming on big time as a true junior. Maybe Riley will develop significantly as his career progresses.
I'm reminded of a GREAT post from mid-August where one of our posters attended some football practices and his observations were prophetic. (I actually printed out his post it was SO GOOD).
I'll try to find it and re-post it.

You're right, big men (true centers mostly) develop very slowly. Keith Benson at Oakland U. was pretty bad his first 2 years and then by his senior year, was all over the NBA mock draft boards. I think he ended up in the second round. He had a great, dominant senior season and with his length, he's the type of guy who will hang around the NBA for a good 10-12 years. BTW, He and Riley are Country Day products, so you know they have received good coaching early.
Remember Olajuwon at Univ. of Houston? His first year in college, the only thing he could do was block shots.

RE: Riley/Bryant/Harrison
Excellent observations, Bob.
I've had a chance to see Zeke Marshall ( a 'top 100' recruit) at Akron play in now his third season.
At first, like Olajawon, the only thing Zeke could do was block shots.
Now he is a complete center and headed for the NBA...
