Is ECU going to back out again? Not a good way to gain support

Terry Holland's football announcement through 2013. I don't see the Orange.

I don't see the Orange here either. I do see openings in 2008 and 2009.

Pretty good schedule. Easier than this year and last but also respectable with 1 really tough game and no I-AA's or Buffalo's.

Iowa likely will be ranked.
Illinois and ECU should be much improved over this year. Same with Ohio if they replace ECU.
Miami is always good for a winning record and solid challenge. Last team not to be above .500 was back in 1994.
Not sure about WF. May not be real good but an ACC non the less, looks much nicer than a scrub.

And it may sound petty but, seriously if you owe them a home game, that can't help the cause of BE begging.

We had a three in Syracuse and two in ECU series. ECU bailed on us about 6 months prior to the our game in 2004 and left us in a real pickle. They said they would honor the contract and reschedule the game at the Carrier Dome in 2006. Now the story is changing again. I say F'em if they can't honor their commitments. ECU should be kissing Cuse's ****** to keep on their good side. We played ECU 10-15 years ago when they were good when others were afraid to play them.

We have had a good series with Syracuse and you guys have been willing to play in Greenville. Out of the 10 games we have played it has been an even split with 5 in Greenville and 5 in Syracuse. I personally would like to keep it going on similar terms, but other factors have come into play. Also, I think you are incorrect about this game being scheduled in 2004. Last year we played West Virginia, Wake Forest, and NC State. I am pretty sure all those have been scheduled for years.

As far as Syracuse, yes you guys and Wake were on the schedule in 2006 and Both were dropped (Probably the reason you are playing Wake Forest ) Nothing definitive has been said about the future but you are not on the schdule for the next 8 years. Clearly this is a new administration with Terry Holland, new direction, new times, and new CUSA for us means new demands.

Holland has lined up a schedule of other Mid Atlantic teams that are to good to pass up for ECU. Virginia Tech, UNC, NC State, Virginia, West Virginia, and Navy will all draw huge crowds and are teams of interest if you are an ECU fan for obvious reasons. The way the conferences has shaken out, it is in our best interest to play local and regional teams OOC because we pretty much play a national schedule in CUSA when you are talking about going to UTEP in the Mountain time zone, Tulsa Oklahoma or some of the other CUSA schools every year.

You say Eff us TexasMark, frankly for all the years and good relationships built playing Big East teams like West Virginia, Syracuse, and Pitt (as well as old members Temple, Miami, and Virginia Tech) for years, we have nothing to show for it. You guys didn't step to the plate for us when the conference shake-up came down, so I say EFFF Syracuse, TOO. If you really wanted to play us, all you had to do was back us getting in the Big East. We all look out for our own interest clearly, and if that means dropping you GREAT, because those other programs bring more to the table for ECU, and you guys would do it to us in a heartbeat.

That said Holland is much to savvy to anger anyone, especially the ones he needs the backing of. I am sure everything was worked out and contractual obligations were met in the form of a pay out or future arrangements were made I am sure. Of course if you really wanted to play us, that could be arranged with conference games I would imagine. Our OOC is pretty much full.

-- We couldn't have added ECU even if we had wanted too. Your football program just picked the wost time to completely go in the tank. Instead of blaming your BE "friends" for still being in CUSA maybe you should look at the men who turned the once proud Pirate football program into what it is today. You just don't see any Jeff Blakes or Marcus Crandells playing at ECU anymore. That's the problem.

-- I agree with Texan Mark on this...if ECU wants to be the 9th member of the all sports league you are going to need more then just the support of West Virginia to get you in....UCF screwing West Virginia on the football contract will (In my opinion) certainly effect how the Mounatineers look at the Golden Knights in the future when it comes to expansion....I would guess that Syracuse may view ECU in the same light for the same reason

How do you know Syracuse didn't go to bat for you? And I highlighted the last part to show the irony. If you think it's great to drop Syracuse off the schedule because it brings more to the table for ECU then that would make it ok for Syracuse not to vote ECU into the Big East because a team brought more to the table for Syracuse right? It goes both ways, you say you played Syracuse for years with nothing to show for it, same thing goes for Syracuse playing ECU right now. It's a two way street.

I will just say this about your post. ECU needs Cuse a whole heck of alot more than Cuse needs ECU. In fact, we dont need ECU at all.

I agree Cuseroc. This is no way to do business. I feel bad for ECU, because they are really out on an island in C-USA. Their only way out is the BE. Terry Holland is probadly the best thing that has happened to them, and he is greatly respected in college athletics especially in ACC country,(thus getting ACC teams on a home and home basis), but his sphere of influence won't cut it in the BE, especially if what is going on with Syracuse is true.

I believe that it was our former AD (Mike Hamrick) who rescheduled the cuse game. If I'm not mistaken we played Duke instead. And ever since that win they had over us; we've been living in football he$$. Hamrick really botched things for us but I am very confident that TH will do everything in his power to mend fences with Syracuse. He's a smart man and he knows that he's gonna need as many people as he can get in his corner when the landscape changes again.

First of all the AD who dropped the Syracuse game is long gone and most ECU fans said good riddance. The ECU vs Syracuse series has been good for ECU and for the large numbers of our alumni in the NJ/NY/PA area. I would like to see it continued.
The only reason I can see it not being continued is that Terry Holland is trying to develop some regional rivalries with the NC/ACC schools, VT, UVA, Navy etc.. these games will draw big crowds into Ficklen and also give us driveable games for our fans. Being isolated by thousands of miles in CUSA it is important for ECU to schedule schools that have interest for our fans. We just took over 10k fans to Wake and when we start winning again you will see 15k+ ECU fans at away games if they will give us the tickets.
The Big East schools that have come to Greenville; WVU,Syracuse,Pitt have all been big fan draws. I think all of our fans would like to see more of it.
