This really shouldn't shock anyone. Liberals in general are uncomfortable with celebrating America.

By their nature they side with any perceived minority or suspect class to the point of militancy. It's part of their make up to believe anyone, or anything, that is powerful, well off, successful etc. is so at the expense of someone, or something, else. While many are very happy to live in America, they do not celebrate its greatness because they believe it is fundamentally unfair in some way.

It's a fairly amazing contradiction in terms. They want our government more involved in our lives, with more control, yet they are uncomfortable if it has any influence or control outside of that because it comes at the expense of other nations. They are fine with government control at the expense of Americans rights, but not non-Americans.

American has been, until recently of course, the most exceptional nation that has ever existed. We celebrate the great American experiment every 4th because it's an aknowledgement of not only the miracle of our nation, but the success and greatness it has achieved in just over 2 centuries. At their core, generally speaking, liberals can't celebrate that because they believe it has been achieved in some unjust way. Because as I said earlier, if we enjoy this much success it has to have come at the expense of others.
