Current Issue
This board tends to focus on the past (that can't be changed), and often super long term future ideas that are a way off (and usually just speculation / unachievable). Perhaps we need to discuss more the current problems and bad practice that may or may not be going on day-to-day in the athletic department. This may be more productive.

I am surprised no one has brought up that there have been a number of changes in staffing this year in the AD. I have heard a number of assistant coaches, marketing, and media staff have all decided to leave (leave themselves rather than pushed). Does anyone know more about this? Frustration at the lack of ambition at ETSU?

The athletic dept staff directory has 81 people listed, that's coaches, grad assistants, everybody. Don't know what could be going on inside, but perhaps there are those who are thinking about their futures knowing that a new president is on the way soon.

RE: Current Issue
Well with a new administration comes a new philosophy, new vision, etc... Alot of times the status quo doesn't cut it anymore and changes need to be made, which could be what's up.

A new philosophy, a new vision is so long overdue that the new hire will be forced to deal with the athletic mess, one way or the other. It looks as if the status quo will not be an option going forward. Either the program will have to be moved forward or additional retreat implemented. Those doing the hiring must know this. It is assumed that the BF&FF and others are working behind the scenes to see that the new president will be one who will move the program forward, beginning with the return of football. A more important question is what is currently evolving? Are there battle lines being drawn now between the pro and anti athletic forces? There must be some important politicking going on as the process moves forward. Three is nothing being said publicly about this. Is that a good or bad sign? Will Paul Stanton play a role in the new hire? If he does, which side will he line up on?

I can assure you that all of the personnel moves in the athletic dept. have nothing to do with a new president. Those that left have done so to improve their careers - better money, better schools, better conferences, etc. ETSU is good for the level it is at, but it is a stepping stone and not a destination for any ambitious individual who works in athletics.

Kevin Bostian left to go to Tennessee Tech. Not sure they are better anything, but they do have football.

I should say that he did get a better position there, however.

That came off a little too harsh toward ETSU by me. ETSU is a good place to be. However, it isn't at a high level so salary/success are only going to be so high. Generally an individual who is young and in the first half of their career will look to better themselves.

I agree Tn. Tech is not better athletically than ETSU. As you said though, the job/role can be better even if the overall dept. is not better. Really I was just saying that those who have left have not done so because they were worried about a new president. They left for what they saw as a better opportunity careerwise.

RE: Current Issue
You are right in saying the president issue had no influence on Bostian. I know that for sure.

Well good for him. I don't see Tennessee Tech as a step up college wise, but more money and a higher ranking position is definitely a good thing. Atleast Cookeville has liquor by the bottle now, and Del Monaco Wines just released a commemorative Tennessee Tech vintage.
