I live west of Fort Worth and back when Apogee Stadium was in its final stages of construction a friend called and told me to come on up to see its progress.

Well, I made the 55 minute drive and drove by the stadium and thought "Jeez, it really looks kind of small." (Even though present seating is only 1,000 less than SMU's Ford Stadium).

Well......then my fellow alum arrives & he takes me on a guided tour all but inside the stadium and I told him that every photo I had seen of Apogee up till now or the interstate view absolutely and amazingly did not do justice to the true breadth of the stadium. And only a 9,000 seat expansion will make it a 40,000 seat stadium with every one of those seats having great sight lines and best part--it will be adding new to what will still be almost new; or.....no patchwork on an old stadium designed and built in the 40's, 50's or 60's.

Big 12 interim Commissioner Chuck Neinas toured the stadium and said from what he knew about construction that North Texas got one hellvua' deal with the quoted price of $78 million. Some have said this stadium if construction began today would easily cost $100,000,000 to $125,000,000 because as most know, construction costs goes up almost by the day especially in our economy to today.

Those who did the blueprints and then construction for the North Texas football stadium are the ones who built the Dallas Cowboys stadium. They seemed to have every detail in place even befor UNT officials turned dirt for Apogee such as for example, a female referees dressing room for one. 3 wind turbines are being built now for the green energy thing (which the jury is still out for all that with me) as I think oil and coal are still quite fine for the USA Can you actually believe the USA missing out on an oil pipeline from Canada to Texas on the decision of one empty suit/empty resume "professional campaigner" (at least until November, 2012, when change takes place or anarchy begins). Jobs? Oh, I forgot, the USA is doing just find at 9 plus % unemployment. I digress...and admit being a bit pissed as I've supported Herman Cain from the git-go.

Many of us look forward to the day when North Texas needs those 9,000 extra seats to meet what will probably one day be a stadium capacity minimum to remain at the FBS level and if the NCAA makes 25,000 real butts in seats per home game a minimum that is fine by me but it will also mean many schools who should already be there are going to have to hustle up a few thousand additional fans.
