I find it hard to grasp that ANY person of ANY faith that is a good neighbor could burn in damnation.

That is why we need Christ because the human measure for 'good' just won't cut it...

If the threat and fear of Hell makes one a better person then that is fine with me.

No...You missed mine. I am not concerned with that scripture. I am concerned with people being good neighbors. How they get there matters not to me.

Whoever created those cartoons doesn't know what the hell their talking about. Must be Baptist.

I'm baptist and I'll bet you 50k I'm more theologically literate than you could ever hope to be.

And salvation has nothing to do with your denomination.

You are humble too

You make the mistake of thinking being smarter than TOGC is something one would take pride in. It's not as though it requires any special effort.

Around the ultimate conclusion I believe they are off base. They list out the traditions and ritual of Roman Catholics, however it doesn't address the fact that Catholics still believe Christ is the only way to heaven. That is all that is required for salvation, as the tract points out.

Personally I believe that you can be a Christian, enter heaven, but do it in spite of some bad theology.

Oh I know you're not concerned with scripture... Why bother learning the bible when you can learn doctor Phil and in your heart believe that's enough...

After all its not about him (christ) it's a bout you..

Heck, when Jesus says *He* is the only way? throw that on the 'out pile'...

Yes, I agree with that. Of course, I am not the final decider of who goes and who doesn't.

I never said anything about not believing in Christ. You made that assumption my friend. I just choose not to condemn others that are good neighbors to me, regardless of their faith or lack of it.

The good news is that we don't condemn anyone, they in the end will condemn themselves.

What was this?

Quote:I find it hard to grasp that ANY person of ANY faith that is a good neighbor could burn in damnation.

Sure seems like you think good neighbors deserve Heaven even without Christ.

I don't know, it sure as heck would surprise me given Jesus himself said otherwise (in one of those versus that many folks chose to ignore)..

Would you be disappointed if people are allowed to go through life thinking "I'm a nice person, and that's good enough for heaven'" only to be condemned to hell because many would rather make people feel good about themselves then tell them an uncomfortable truth?

That, to me, would be a huge tragedy. You have a nice neighbor that you love but refuse to share the gospel with them because it might hurt their feelings.

Forget the weight of scripture behind the idea that Original sin exist and without Christ that in and of itself is condemnable, if "I'm OK, You're OK"

Rather than get your view of Catholicism from Chick Publications may I suggest the Catechism of the Catholic Church (It may be a bit wordy for someone willing to assign millions of people to hell based on an eight page tract)

I personally would hope you would find that a pleasant surprise.

I think it is hard for us to have a conversation about this because we have such opposite beliefs.

I look at it like this: I would not be dissapointed that people went to Hell, because I don't believe that people go to Hell, or that there even is a Hell.

A lack of any evidence to the reality of any deity in any way, shape or form. And I see man's remarkable inhumanity to man a clear and distinct indicator of a lack of a God of any type. I cannot believe that an all knowing, all seeing omni-present higher power would allow humans to suffer with such pain.

So what you may see as divine (such as posts about math and science above) I simply see as the beauty of chance and chaos.

(Don't you think it's positively amazing that you can believe in God and the order of life and afterlife, and I can believe in the total randomness of the universe being nothing but a lucky strike? I find that fascinating to humanity can have such extremes)
