Another way to look at value of school
Looking at it from media rights and sponsorship's' perspective. I like to see all the schools post their annual revenue from these rights. This will give us some idea how much these schools are worth to the TV folks.
In UCONN's case, UCONN has the following:
$80M over 10 years with IMG at $8M per year revenue to the school.
http://ctsportslaw.com/2008/09/24/uconn-...ia-rights/
$45.5M over 10 years with NIKE or $4.55M per year to the school. The deal is believed to be one of the biggest in the country.
http://ctsportslaw.com/2008/06/25/big-mo...-contract/
That's $12.55M per year on top of whatever TV contract, tickets etc. UCONN will get from the BE.
I like to see what kind of rights other BE schools, expansion candidates etc. have relative to these revenue stream.
Here is a link to IMG showing media rights it paid to some other schools: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/2...titialskip

RE: Another way to look at value of school
In 2010 UofL made $25,494,904 from Mens Basketball only. This number will be dwarfed by the money that will be made this year. All concessions, 3000 additional seats, expanded number of luxury suites and signage fees all go to UofL from the Yum Center. It not beyond expectations for the Mens Basketball program to make close to $35,000,000 thsi year.

Did UL created YUM center and get to keep all the revenue? What about expenses? Its great you guys have a state of the art pavilion for basketball, which certainly help generate more revenue. UCONN's on campus Gample is way too small and XL Center needs a face lift. I hope state of CT will invest the money someday to build a pavilion suitable for the 3 time national champs in men and 7 time national champs in women basketball programs.
UCONN men's and women's basketball bring about $31M to the school per year right now.

You hope the state can invest in building it? Most of us had to build our own with some corporate help. That to me shows who really has
value and staying power. BTW, ECU is with IMG too.

UCONN is a flagship state school so state will help build these infrastructures. UCONN's RENT stadium was built with funding from state of CT.
What is ECU's contract value with IMG?

The RENT doesn't belong to the UConn athletic department and it isn't managed by UConn. So while the Huskies play there, it really isn't UConn's stadium.

Yep. It belongs to the state. Technically the entire University belongs to the state of CT.

Correct, that is why I also pointed out that it isn't managed by UConn. So yes you play in a facility the state built, but it is not a on-campus university managed facility.

That is a cool link, hadn't seen that one before. If those numbers are right, I am surprised by UNMs deal. 8 year $36.8MM with Learfield...way more than they make from the Comcast/MTN TV deal.

Believe it or not, that's a huge part of most school's revenue. IMG and companies like it are just another way of how they value different schools individually from a media perspective.
UCONN is one of the those schools that can start its own network. Right now SNY is pretty much the UCONN network, but I wonder how much it would be worth it start our own network since we basically got entire state of CT (Hartford/New Have DMA plus 1M people in NYC DMA in Fairfield County CT). When SNY got UCONN for the annual rights, they weren't in all of CT's cable systems. After signing that contract, they pretty much got the entire system within 1 year. There is a lot of value of that in the state of CT.
