ECU gives a conference access to the only football first school in the tenth largest state in the union surrounded by basketball rich ACC schools & a few SEC schools .

If one was to do the research they would find that ECU is a ripe piece of fruit that give up the whole tree .

AD Terry Holland also whent on to say that ECU has the Athority to add 8k more seats, brining the capacity to 58k, mmediately apon joining a BSC conferencs .

Link to: pirateradio1250.com for the Terry Holland Interview on the David Glen Show

Inspite of all of this, I think most BE fans are glad that TCU was invited over everybody else. But I do hope that ECU is invited over the remaining usual suspects.

Yep, TCU was the top move but I definitely would love to see ECU in the conference.

(06-11-2011 10:19 AM)cardshouse Wrote:  ECU should have been in the Big East along time ago.....TCU is not in the EAST and is a desperate move by basketball people trying to get the quick fix. The facts are right, not many people care about TCU unless they are TCU fans which seem to be few. Don't get me wrong, TCU is a solid program that should be in a conference that fits their geography...We will see no fan growth with a team that has to travel by jet EVERY single game. I guess TCU will be the program that finally puts Big East football on the map...What a shame.

Ok, a couple of things because your post makes zero sense. For one, how is adding TCU a desperate move basketball people? TCU doesn't improve basketball, and we don't need improved anyway we have the best basketball conference in America. And the football schools pursued TCU not the basketball schools. Thank god you can see into the future and see no fan growth. I'm curious, did your crystal ball tell you back in 2003 that Cincinnati, South Florida, Connecticut and Rutgers would also have no fan growth? As for TCU not being in the East, just because you East in your name doesn't make you an Eastern school so your rationale for ECU is ridiculous. Heck, half the Big East isn't in the East, Cincinnati, Louisville, South Florida, heck WVU is more southern then Eastern. Heck, if you're concerned about a conference adding a school because it doesn't match the conference name then you are going to be a sad soul. Because there are 12 teams in the Big Ten, 10 teams in the Big 12, a Northeast school in a southern/Atlantic-based ACC and the SEC almost added Texas. God forbid teams have to travel by jet to every game it's not like every school in America isn't doing that. Did you know that one of the reasons Cincinnati was attractive to the Big East was because schools like Syracuse liked our airport because it allowed them to travel to other places since we're in an ideal spot? It's amusing though that you CONSTANTLY pimp Louisville to the Big 12, saying you want Louisville there, it's a better fit, it's a better conference, etc. You want Louisville in a Texas-based conference yet you are complain about adding a Texas school. Contradictions anyone?

Our fans do come out. But ECU is a really lousy draw. Our second worst draw that season had five times as many people.

Considering the ECU fans in attendance helped to inflate your sorry attendance figure, a little gratitude might be in order or that sorry attendance figure would be even worse.
And why is ECU a sorry draw for Memphis? Maybe cuz not many fans like you want to see their team get whupped again at home by ECU. Let's see the last time you beat ECU was 2005, 6 yrs ago!!
As much as you trash ECU (like a teen age punk), is must really bother you to get beaten by them so much -- only 6 wins in 19 games vs ECU. How about you take the beatings like a man, admit we have steadily been the better team (by far) and quit bitching like a little school girl.
Grow up, cuz you are a true embarrassment to the vast majority of classy, respectful Memphis fans, you show no class. Now go ahead, post away, either like a man or like a punk...

You missed the entire point of my post... A quality fan base comes out to watch their team play no matter who the opponent is...So trying to blame your sorry attendance on ECU just proves the point that your fan base for football is weak. Why don't we just say it....The real reason your attendance sucked so bad for

that game was because first of all you guys were having your typical crappy season and only drawing about 20,000 per game. Secondly your fans knew that your typically crappy team was going to get pounded by a pretty good ECU team. Finally it was a Tuesday night game in the rain....I think that just about sums up the embarrassing turn out by your fans.

Not saying he is wrong, but I would like to see how they came up with the numbers. Especially since they are counting 3 DMAs for that ECU number if you are including Greenville, Charlotte, and Raliegh-Durham.

Some previous ECU post I have seen mention a 10.3 rating in the combined DMAs for ECU for that Liberty Bowl game. Considering that the national overnight was 8.6 for the TCU vs. Boise Fiesta Bowl, I am fairly confident in saying it drew at least a 10.3 in DFW.

FWIW the Rose Bowl against Wisconsin drew a 20.1 in DFW for the Rose, a 18.8 in Austin, a 14.0 in San Antonio, and a 12.8 in Houston.

Along the same lines, I do believe ECU is a better TV draw than some on this board give them credit for. Sure their home DMA is fairly small, but Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham are both top 30 DMAs and no other school in the state of North Carolina could be described as a football first school IMO. ECU is a football first school.

Dude, whether you like him or not, let's not have any name calling. Keep it civil...

There's nothing wrong with having an argument. After all, an argument is merely a discussion between 2 different points of view. But there's no call for rudeness...

RE: ECU Actually has more TV viewers than TCU
Well, all I can say on this is TCU was the best add available to the Big East for football and I am glad we have them.

The next best add that the BE could make for football would be BYU, who has a huge national following and they fill their stadium.

The third best add for football would be East Carolina. Better good national following, very strong regional following and again thier fans fill the stadium.

For team 12, Villanova will be it, if they comply with the Pitt, Rutgers and West Virginia demands. I do not think they will spend the money, because the fan support is not their!

So the Navy and Army folly is not going to happen. Notre Dame is never joining BE football. PSU, Maryland, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Miami or schools from the Big 12 North are not joining the BE. 05-stirthepot

So let us face the facts. The Big has 9 football schools. And I believe ECU will be the 10th, because as much as I like BYU, they will probally not join. Look for expansion to stop and the BE will be 10/18.

Team 11 and 12 will probally be put on hold until somebody stands out from the rest. So Central Florida, Memphis, SMU, Houston, Temple, Villanova, UMass, James Madison, and ODU build better facilities, improve your basketball and olypmic sports, win more games, and start putting fans in the stands! Prove you can afford to join the Big East Country Club!

Calling each other names and pimping your school will not get you into the Big East! 05-stirthepot

UCF is ahead on budget with all the expansion candidates. We had all 3 major sports ranked at some point during this last athletic year. We had the highest Sears Cup standing (or whatever the new sponsor is). Plus the #19th ranked TV market and the #2 largest enrollment in the country. UCF will be in a BCS conference at some point.

I would love for the Big 12 to expand to "12" and add UCF and South Florida. The Big East can expand into Texas with SMU, Rice, UTEP, and Houston to get to 12 members.

According to the latest DMA rankings, Dallas-FW has 2.5M TV homes. So 1.5M = 60% penetration. That's awesome.

Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham have a combined 2.1M TV homes. I don't know how in the world Holland came up with a 2.5M number.

Something smells very fishy.
