If by traditional, you mean blank, yes.

That is what they are... ND, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers (just a letter), etc., are traditional. I don't mind them, nor do I mind the new styles. As long as they aren't ugly (terrible colors, etc.) I don't mind.

Agreed, I almost put their new helmet on this list. It is pretty bad. They had a good thing going.

I actually love those traditional helmets. To me, "less is more" when it comes to uniforms. If a uniform looks like it could've also been used in 1960 with reasonable adjustments for modern fit (i.e. longer shorts in basketball), then I'm all for it. This is especially true for baseball.

RE: WORST COLLEGE FOOTBALL HELMETS
The Helmet Project is a great way to waste a whole lot of hours:

http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/

I'm really biased against lots of letters on helmets where it gets too busy. Not a fan of the helmets for Maryland, Oregon State or Southern Miss. Even for my own Illini, I'd much prefer a simple "Block I" on the helmet as opposed to spelling out "Illinois". Generally speaking, the cleaner, the better.

Now, that doesn't mean that they have to be completely plain. Michigan and USC have my favorite helmets (even though I can't stand those schools) and Texas is up there, too.

RE: WORST COLLEGE FOOTBALL HELMETS
Looking at the thread on worst and best helmets, I'd rank the worst list as much better than the best list. I like fairly simple (although Alabama and Penn State are just a bit too simple for me, not that I think they should change).

I agree with you... of course, in the NFL I have always liked the Bengals helmet with the stripes and it is almost always universally hated. Yet the Browns end up getting good reviews... so what do I know?

It's all a matter of taste, and if you ask 30 people, you'll get 30 different responses...

Although I am not a big fan of the color red...in general....I like Rutger's helmet. Simple, classic look. shows up well on a high def TV. The Aztecs helmet is brutal....and seems like a hand me down, lower tier community college helmet.

What's wrong with CMU's? I kinda like that one.

As someone mentioned previously, Arizona State belongs on this list. It's ridiculous.

RE: WORST COLLEGE FOOTBALL HELMETS
Just stumbled across this thread. Oregon doesn't wear it all the time, but my vote is for the yellow helmet with flames:
