RE: Pitt finally got a recruit
Quote:Sto-Rox senior cornerback Marzett Geter today became the first member of 2012 to make a verbal commitment to Pitt.

Geter, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, said he made his decision two days ago, but he still plans to take visits to other schools.

"I wanted to verbally commit (to Pitt), and keep my options open," Geter said.

I see what you mean. It sounds like a cheerleader smiling at the right time could persuade him to commit elsewhere...

The thing is Pitt is the kids only offer. Why jump on this and suddenly backtrack? My guess is that Graham himself told the kid to calm down and take a look at other schools.

I don't blame kids for committing to an offer when they are available in today's recruiting climate. There are a lot of stories of kids waiting around evaluating all of their options and having scholarship offers pulled once schools fill up. This is a odd case since Pitt is his only offer like you mentioned though.

If he thinks Pitt may be the right choice then the commitment is a good idea. Not unusual for kids to still take some looks around as well, just to make sure they are comfortable with their choice.

There are a lot of stories around about that because it's a time honored practice. It was long established when Bear Bryant began coaching...

The new trend, however, is for kids to have their scholarship yanked because of a coaching change...
