First recruit of the 2012 class

WVU picked up recruit #5 yesterday, according to rivals. scout doesn't list him as committed yet...

Might as well call this kid a soft verbal.

Why is that?

I see what you mean. It sounds like a cheerleader smiling at the right time could persuade him to commit elsewhere...

The thing is Pitt is the kids only offer. Why jump on this and suddenly backtrack? My guess is that Graham himself told the kid to calm down and take a look at other schools.

any commits now are al soft, there is no guarantee they will sign

I guess it depends on how many headlines he gets...

I don't blame kids for committing to an offer when they are available in today's recruiting climate. There are a lot of stories of kids waiting around evaluating all of their options and having scholarship offers pulled once schools fill up. This is a odd case since Pitt is his only offer like you mentioned though.

If he thinks Pitt may be the right choice then the commitment is a good idea. Not unusual for kids to still take some looks around as well, just to make sure they are comfortable with their choice.

There are a lot of stories around about that because it's a time honored practice. It was long established when Bear Bryant began coaching...

The new trend, however, is for kids to have their scholarship yanked because of a coaching change...
