RE: So where does the Big East go from here
Interesting. I just read where the B12 will hold rock-steady at 10 teams. So BYU for all-sports and 10/18 setup is where the Big appears to be harded or just staying at 9/17 or could we be shrinking to 9/16?

I'm guessing that we're either adding Temple or Villanova for 10/17 and adding 2 more FB onlies down the road, unless BYU really is on the table.

I agree with Average Joe on this one.

Adding 3 CUSA schools to the Big East would make Big East Football more CUSA than BE. CUSA was never all that successful on its own, so why would the conference want to move in that direction?

The Big East should take top members of CUSA when/if they establish themselves as no brainers the way that Louisville did. No one in CUSA fits that description right now.

The Identity of the Big East iw in the Northeast. That's what has value to the BCS. That's where there are markets that have not yet reached their potential for college football - unlike the South where a conference loaded with southern members would bump up against a ceiling established by SEC, ACC, & Big XII members.

In building a conference for decades to come, the opportunities for developing new markets are in the Northeast, not the South. It would be much better to wait for a Northeast school to emerge than to add southern members just for the sake of adding numbers. If during that wait, a southern school develops into the next TCU, then I'm all for adding such a candidate.

That would all be true if Temple wasn't already kicked out 01-wingedeagle

Beej, that's part that doesn't make sense. I want no parts of the Philthy market. But its apparent that's the route we're most likely going.

animus, we've seen that all The BEast front office wants to put forth are all the same old previously unsuitable solutions. Of course, that could all be a smoke screen for their real intentions. But I kind of doubt it...

RE: So where does the Big East go from here
The only reason for a smokescreen I could think of is for BYU all sports. Like I said in the blog, if the CUSA candidates was so great, then why is Nova, Army, and Villanova even tossed around as options. Plus one could've been added back when TCU was. I

If they go with an all-sports bid for BYU, it would definitely help the conference. With all the denials of any talks between The BEast and BYU, it seems plausible...

RE: So where does the Big East go from here
IMO, we should add ECU, SMU and.....UCiF.

ECU would makes great geographical sense, great fanbase and has a history of playing BE schools

SMU provides TCU with a natural rival and could make for some good TV if SMU can catch up to TCU recent success

UCiF automatically gives the Big East its second most heated rivalry game after the Backyard Brawl. Plus since USF is in firm control of the Big East's expansion process....according to some....USF President Judy Genshaft can make it so....with a snap of her fingers. Her powers are just that impressive

I'm not suggesting that adding any of these teams makes economic sense in terms of television markets but it would raise the level of passion in the league....which is a big part of the recipe of success the SEC and Big10 has cultivated over the years.

...btw, I'm probably going to need therapy for mentioning UCiF to the BE in an open forum. I'm sure I'll come to my senses tomorrow morning....03-melodramatic

RE: So where does the Big East go from here
....well, that didn't take long. President Genshaft just called me and said that she is going to block UCiF....just b/c she can.05-stirthepot

IMHO, the best move is....no move...unless network execs show as the money. I really don't want any of our schools to take less $$$ just so a couple CUSA schools can graduate up to BCS status.
