Thank you Coach Tressel for 10 excellent years.
You have to be kidding? The dude cheated at Youngstown State and Ohio State.

If that is the case (and I do not think anyone on here is in a position to know), then he is really bad at choosing which rules to break.

Tressel destroyed any good he's done over the years with some bad decisions, and he may have taken Ohio State down with him. IMO he bailed too late to do them any good...

I am just surprised that OSU really thought they could just give him a 2 game suspension and this would all be over with. They were/are in as much denial as USC was/is.

Yeah, I agree with you. I think they felt they could soften the blow by suspending Tressel for two games, till the news came out about players getting cars from alums. I think that blew up their game plan, and they had to "fire" Tressel. Man, I think OSU is going to be feeling this for a few years. The NCAA wont implement a death penalty, but someone mentioned a "USC type punishment". I could see this.

I know one thing for sure. Arkansas never lost the Sugar Bowl. We just didn't win it.

RE: Tressel resigns as HC of OSU!
Anyone clamoring for a death penalty at OSU is an utter moron. The extent of their violations does not equal USC's violations up to this point. Plus, I don't think there is any actual evidence about the car deals. Players getting discounted deals and selling their own possessions is not exactly a coaching indiscretion. Tressel shouldn't have lied about it and he should have made the suspensions last year. But way too many internet guys are letting their own jealousy of tOSU blind them on this issue.
The coach tried to protect his players. There are worse things to do. Its not like the players committed crimes. They just sold stuff they owned. Wow, what a terrible act!! College athletes are the only people that can not legally sell things in their own possession and somehow fans have convinced themselves that this makes sense. I find it embarrassing about our society that Petrino has already been forgiven for completely bailing on the Atlanta Falcons mid-year to take Arkansas job, and Tressel is out as OSU's coach because he didn't want to rat out players. Neither act is admirable but I'd rather a coach that protects players than bails on a team to take another job when things don't work out.

Yup, you are right, they aren't equal. OSU's penalties will end up being harsher because the claims and guilts within the program are larger than the Trojans' at this point.
Jim Tressel left because he was going to get severely punished at OSU. What's stopping him from taking another D-I coaching job? Nothing. He bailed on his players, plain and simple. Seems he has definitely work his charms on you, Nola. I don't respect liars.

The funny part would be if that game was the only one not vacated. After all, at that point they had been ruled eligible. OSU's 2010 record would be 1-0, with the victory in the Sugar Bowl.

If claims were proof, Auburn would have lost its accreditation already. The only charge the NCAA has brought so far was that Tressel didn't report the violations once he knew about them, which likely doesn't lead to harsh penalties other than his dismissal and the vacation of the games.
If half of the other accusations turn out to have some evidence, then something worse might happen. I have a feeling that we haven't seen the end of new revelations.

Someone with a better command of the NCAA rulebook might correct me on this point, but I believe if (i.e. when) Tressel is found guilty of the "failure to disclose" violations, the NCAA can place a "show-cause" penalty on him personally (in addition to whatever they give OSU). That penalty would effectively prevent him from working at any NCAA school for a few years.

I simply do not get what you are saying about Petrino. Are you telling me that you have never taken a job and decided it was the wrong job for you. That is what happened to Petrino. The only difference is that a whole nation wasn't looking at and judging you when you quit. What Tressel did is much worse. He lied to protect his season, not his players.

This^ My favorite moment today was listening to Desmond Howard shred Tressel on ESPN.

Well the 30 scholarships over 3 years will devastate USC for quite a while. It will probably take them a decade to recover from that.
Anything close to that for OSU would severely damage them as well. I am pretty sure Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan and Nebraska are shedding tears today......tears of happiness.

You understand that if players are allowed to sale awards, rings and etc. then the school is in effect paying the players.

You realize that PSU won 2 of the last 5 B1G championships. OSU got co-championships, that's how they get away with claiming 6 championships in a row. PSU beat them both times and earned the BCS bid. OSU got at large bids those years. There won't be any more co-championship BS now. The championship will be decided in the CCG.
And if I remember correctly, 2 years ago poor old PSU beat LSU in a rain storm in Florida.

And what of the Big Ten's commish Delaney? he was 100% behind Tressel, who was his golden boy. He is the one who lobbied successfully for the 5 players to play in the Sugar Bowl.
I hope this whole thing (including the major stories that are yet to come into the open) severely damages his credibility.
