TCU got a sweet deal
With all this talk about the Big East getting SEC-like TV money, it just occurred to me that within a two year span, TCU is going from bottom of the barrel in TV money to being one of the kings of the mountain.

Some say that it's better to be lucky than good. The folks running TCU have been both good AND lucky, and kudos to them for it.

Very similar situation to Utah's move to the PAC-12.

Utah got a great deal too, though I think the BE will get around 16-17M from NBComcast

I think you're right Cromie. The Big East Network will probably be created to supplement the TV contract and add stability. But I think you're numbers are probably right.

TCU could not get a better offer. A league were they come in in their most important sport and compete at the top right away. A better baseball league that they have been looking for. And the best basketball league that their is

TCU hit a Triple or even a HR in regards to receiving more TV $$$ (moved up from a non-bcs TV deal to the 5th or 6th BCS Conf in regards to TV $$$$).

Utah...hit a GRAND SLAM...as Pac-12 will now be in the Top 3 BCS Conf TV $$$$ wise (with Big Ten and SEC) and if their Pac-12 TV Network gets launched...Pac-12 could be #1 in TV $$$$.

I'm pretty sure that Utah and Colorado won't receive full shares for several years. Is this correct?...

Didn't mean to imply they did...just that they will have guaranteed major $$$$ in the coming years...which should easily outdraw most BCS Conf (including Big East), especially once their APPROVED TV Network gets off the ground (which I noted above).

Everyone is getting ramped up about 20+ million per year pay day off a couple of posts from some guy on the Uconn scout board. People are really latching onto that aren't they? The level of disappointment might be large. I just hope people wait for something like SBD talk about 20 mil +

I believe that is correct, the $$$$ that is not being given to the 2 new schools will help offset start up costs of the P12 Network.

I love how fans of other conferences obsessed with us being happy about a new TV deal. In fact I think there will be a level of disappointment if and when we get that deal.

02-13-banana Everyone was doubting that the pac-12 was going to get 18+ million projected per year, and this was coming from actual sources.

I'm just doubting that the 20+ million that is coming from a post on the Uconn scout forums.

This. TCU put itself in this position. What it did NOT do was say, "Well, if we just had a BCS label, we'd be a power!"

RE: TCU got a sweet deal
I think we are fortunate in terms of timing, but I agree with the sentiment that it was not simply some lucky fluke of being in the right place at the right time. When the SWC collapsed, we were at a crossroads- do we sit back and try to find a new, stable but lesser "niche" or do we participate in the college football arms race? We chose the latter and set out on a more aggressive course in the mid-90s. That strategy led to the successes of the last decade.

If there is any luck, it is the timing of the decision to get aggressive with the growth/developement of the Barnett Shale wells the past 10-15 years. Some prominent TCU alums/boosters are part of that development, and are the source of a lot of the deep pockets that have funded our infrastucture improvements (both athletic and non-athletic). As an alum of the early 90's, it is amazing to see the transformation of the campus and athletic facilities.
