Belmont to OVC - will it impact the Big South?
Very interesting situation after Belmont's announcement. Will Lipscomb follow? Will ETSU also look for a more geographically-friendly league?

This article was posted on the ETSU board....

Good read. About 2/3 down it is suggested the A-Sun could raid the Big South (UNCA, Radford, Winthrop mentioned). They can try, but I just don't see that happening. I would hate to lose any of those schools. ETSU coming to the Big South would be more logical. Let the A-Sun be a Ga/Fla conference.

Unrelated to Belmont's move, but remember KSU is adding football and there is chatter of JU adding football scholarships. Could they end-up in the Big South someday?

Oh yeah, Longwood needs a conference.

This should be fun to watch. Hope Campbell and the Big South come out ok if the dominos start to fall.

It is more likely to go the other way. If anything the Big South will be adding members and not subtracting. The Big South with football is the one that is growing. I could see the conference adding Upstate and ETSU without much effort since they fit the geographic footprint very well. Longwood could be a possibility but I think it is distant. This might be the chance for Longwood to get in the A-Sun though. Jacksonville is a possibility but only if scholarship football is added. I don't see them doing it since they still are using football like a cash cow for student enrollment similar to what we are doing.

It will all be very interesting.

Big South is "traditional" (read old -- or at least has been around a while) and "stable" (read not in financial or NCAA trouble) at least from what I know, which admittedly is not that much.

Is the ASun even viable now?

Trying to figure in my mind why someone who is geographically right at home in the BS would even consider a move to ASun. Isn't that mostly a lateral move? Are our RPI's that different?
