RE: 2011-2012 Men's Basketball Schedule
http://whiteandbluereview.com/?p=11942
According to the above link, we play at Iowa the day before Thanksgiving and at Creighton the following Friday. The way this "Multi-Team Event" is described, it sounds like there might be a game with A&T either in Buies Creek or in Greensboro.
If this is accurate, I think we now know 6 non-conference games. With 18 league games (two BS teams are only played once), there's room for several more OOC games.
Also, hopefully we'll have Bracketbusters in February.

Chicago State is also in that "MTE". With an lowly RPI of 339 (of 345), CSU is a school we had better beat regardless of where we play.

Could it be?
The amended Sunday policy was stated as the following in 2009 when CU announced it was returning to the Big South:
"Sunday play is allowed for makeup games, tournaments and playoffs at the regional and national level — after church on Sunday. This was a unanimous decision of the board of trustees."
Last year, CU played Samford on a Sunday in the Auburn tourney, so that would fit the above. Although this quote doesn't include scheduled league games on Sunday, I wouldn't be surprised if we'll do it (play VMI in this case). If it's true, it will also be interesting to see if it's in Lexington or in Buies Creek.
This fall, men's soccer has a tournament game on a Sunday afternoon in Wilmington. Women's soccer plays at a tournament at Valpo on a Sunday at 11 a.m. That's Central time though, so the folks here will be getting out of church by then unless the preacher is long-winded.

According to my buddy, whose son plays for VMI, it is on a Sunday, in Buies Creek, at 2:00, and is a regular season league game. The VMI (nor CU) schedule is posted anywhere I can find yet, so this may be just a college kid trying to "one up" dad? I almost hope not though. As much as I love the "stand" of the Sunday "no play" policy, it is a creature from a different day. Time to move on!

RE: 2011-2012 Men's Basketball Schedule
Good find!!
With the exception of ECU, that's a pretty boring non-conf home schedule. Not crazy about Montreat and Methodist on there.
With Houston Baptist, Presbyterian, and Methodist, it looks like we're trying to play every denomination. No Sunday games, though.
The BracketBusters game will be away?
Playing Va Tech again?

RE: 2011-2012 Men's Basketball Schedule
Last year's Sagarin rankings for this year's non-conference opponents:
47 Virginia Tech
102 Creighton
112 Iowa
140 East Carolina
191 App State
194 UNCW
(251 Campbell)
274 NC A&T
338 Houston Baptist
344 Chicago State (out of 345 schools)

RE: 2011-2012 Men's Basketball Schedule
Bracketbuster pairings are announced later in the season (I think after about 2/3 of the games have been played) and are based on RPI's as well as geographic considerations. So you will be paired with a like RPI team who is generally close to you---at least that is how it usually plays out. So if you are 100 in RPI, and say App st is 105, then that becomes a likely match-up.
As for the schedule, I like that you guys didn't go the CCU/VMI route and schedule 4 non D1's, but you guys scheduled a lot of RPI killer games. Houston Baptist twice---they were last in RPI last year, along with Chicago St. and NC A&T are really going to kill the RPI regardless of whether you win or not.

RE: 2011-2012 Men's Basketball Schedule
ECU might be too "high-profile" for BracketBusters. No C-USA teams participated last year.
It sounds like participants are pre-determined. It would be nice if we knew the 2012 field and could watch their RPIs prior to the pairings announcement in January.
Last year, there were 114 teams (57 games). BracketBusters games involving Big South schools were as geographically close as HPU-App and as far as UNCA-Northeastern. So, who knows where we will play.

RE: 2011-2012 Men's Basketball Schedule
You will usually see a projected pairings list among various sites once it gets closer. I think they avoid pitting two teams against each other that have already played so you probably wouldn't get anyone already on the schedule. Also, forgot about this, but you are already determined home or away at the beginning of the season, so obviously if you are home you can't be pitted against someone who also has the home designation for this year.
So in essence, as it gets close to February, just start lining up the RPI's of the home or away teams (depending on which you are) and see who is pretty close geographically to you that you don't already have (or played) on the schedule, and you will be able to narrow down to around 2-4 teams they will probably pair you with.

How about NC State in place of Montreat? The non-conference schedule has gotten a little more interesting with a game against NC State at Reynolds Coliseum on Dec 29.
