RE: NCAA wants stiffer punishments.
The quote was, if I'm not mistaken, in the NYT's article and I can assure you a news outlet such as the NYTs doesn't just make up quotes. Here's a link to a courier-journal article in which Dover calls the whole thing "disgusting". I can't seem to find a link to the NYT's article. As for the quotes from his family...guys seriously, this crap is all over Louisville. It hasn't hit national media yet, but I can absolutely promise you it's pretty solid what they think and feel around town. Of course, you guys know more about what's going on up here than we do so you're going to continue sticking your heads in the sand and say it ain't so. Even when the NYT's and ESPN is writing about it happening, you refuse to believe it so nothing I say is going to be proof positive enough for you guys. Don't worry though, it'll come out and when it does I will laugh.

Stiffer punishments, Great. Now, how about some faster punishments? Could somebody explain why on earth does it take so long to mete out findings & justice? Do the guilty parties, [schools, coaches, players, or whatever], move, change names, or hide so you can't find them? Is it because you've only got 2 or 3 investigators riding around in a VW camper to check on the entire country? Until the NCAA gets ahead or at least close to the forefront, they will never wash off the stink of corruption from violators or the stain off innocent bystanders.

Dover told the Times that the dealings over Smith felt distinctively suspect.
“It's completely ridiculous,” Dover told the Times. “The whole situation is disgusting.”

Thats your proof? Where are the details from Dover? What did he see or hear that was so disgusting? A piss poor job by a NY Times reporter and the Courier Journal want-a-be reporter.

Faster doesn't mean its better...as the NCAA seem to "rush through" their investigation with Ohio State...as with all of the overwhelming evidence that came out AFTER the NCAA's initial decision (prior to BCS Bowl Game) seemed to be rushed as ESPN/Sugar Bowl Officials/City of New Orleans/Ohio State and the Big Ten all wanted it completed PRIOR to the Bowl Game.

Maybe if the NCAA didn't rush it...they would have found ALL the damaging evidence that Tressel was hiding all along.

3rdandblunder, stop talking out of your proverbial @ss, would you? We're not sticking our head in the sand, if it's truly "all over Louisville" then where's a local paper quoting him with something a little less vague than that? Where's a link to a local sports radio show discussing it? You say it hasn't hit "National Media" yet but you can't even show a place where it's hit your local media.

By the way, it's all over central florida that Strong promised Bridgewater a new camaro to go to UoL! What? A Source?! *STOP STICKING YOUR HEAD INTO THE SAND IT'S EVERYWHERE DOWN HERE! OH THAT'S RIGHT YOUD KNOW WHATS GOING ON IN CENTRAL FLORIDA BETTER THAN ME!?! GAWD I'M GONNA LAUGH WHEN IT TURNS OUT TRUE!!!*

That is what you sound like when you end every single post with the same attempted attack on UCF fans, simply because we're asking for a source...

Sorry, I wasn't referring to to the NCAA's initial knee-jerk reaction, but to the finalized findings/judgement, that seem to come 1-3 years later.

That is a good point. It seems to take 6-12 months to get all the info then another year or so just to figure out what to do with that info. What's the delay in that year? Are they investigating the situation further or just trying to figure out all the scenarios of punishments they could offer?

I posted this earlier in the thread. It is geared towards UNC but talks about investigation timelines. Not that it answers both of your questions

Lol, you in particular is why I'm going to enjoy watching UCF go down in flames. It's going to be pretty amusing to me. It's going to happen, and when it does, YOU and your BS antics are precisely why I'm going to laugh and be so dang amused.

Seriously? Now asking for a source and not taking a random poster on a free and unregulated messageboard qualifies as "BS antics"? How DARE I question you, a random poster with a few hundred posts on a public internet messageboard! Oh the humanity of it all! What is the world coming to when I doesn't simply take a random poster at his word that my team has committed the worst NCAA infractions this side of SMU?!

Honestly, my post you quoted does accurately describe how you sound to a reasonable human being. Just, you know, in case you care or are even intelligent enough to grasp the concept. Both of those are pretty questionable at this point.

RE: NCAA wants stiffer punishments.
Let's turn the tables and do a little role playing here too, for one second...

Let's say there was a 4* QB out of Orlando that was pretty well known to be a prominent UCF fan. He goes to watch UCF spring practices, goes to UCF games, wore UCF gear since before he was being recruited by anyone. Let's say this kid commits two years early to UCF. Let's say he does absolutely everything he possibly can to enroll early at UCF. Let's say throughout the whole process he makes it well known he wants to go to UCF and is excited about playing at UCF. And then let's say at the very last second this player signs with Louisville. And during his press announcement, he says it's a "business decision", and at that presser is a guy from Orlando that's been banned from UCF sports events and facilities. And then let's say that every prominent and well respected insider from your UCF message boards start talking about details of offers and shady recruitment. Let's say that almost immediately, as predicted by those insiders, said player asks for a release from his LOI to Louisville. Let's say he says there's "special circumstances". Let's then say the NYTs and ESPN release articles concerning the recruiting practices of Louisville. Let's then say that it's known that the NCAA has at least made a phone call to Louisville and Louisville has said they're doing an internal investigation of recruiting practices in house....

How would you jokers be acting then? You wouldn't feel the least be vindicated? You wouldn't be listening to the news being put out by those insiders that have, until this point, been 100% on the nose? You wouldn't be frustrated at Louisville fans saying they're free and clear and demanding "facts"...even though these articles were written in very prominent news outlets not known for spewing forth crap? Be honest, you guys would be as giddy about this as Louisville fans are right now. And while you're being honest with yourself, admit that the whole thing DOES seem shady. Screw Chandler. Screw Ware. None of that bugged me, and none of that raised any red flags as far as I'm concerned..but you cannot say, with a straight face, that the Smith situation is not, at the very least questionable.

This is all irrelevant and, to put it bluntly, indicative of your utter inability to have a coherent discussion.

To go back to the debate at hand you're making claims, that if true, would put UCF in a short list of programs that have f*cked up royally. I asked for a source, any source, which would back up the claims of the news being "all over Louisville". You got angry that I wouldn't take you at your word, decided to flame all UCF fans multiple times (and me in particular) as "putting our heads in the sand" because we wanted a source, and now we've come to this. Either cite a source, or don't be surprised and offended if we don't believe you. It's not because our heads are in the sands, it's because a random poster on a nationally based unregulated board like this has absolutely no credibility. I know this, as I am currently a member of SCOTUS and we take internet law very seriously.

P.S. See what I did there to outline the absurdity inherent in you expecting me to believe what you say as true? Of course you didn't...

To turn the tables correctly though, no, I would expect nothing less than you asking me for a source if I were making claims against louisville like you are against UCF.

Well, you're going to have to get it from the NYT and ESPN. They did the investigating. The rest has come from inside info on Louisville boards that have, to this point, been 100% correct.

One reason it takes a while is that from what I understand is that the NCAA violations investigators is a very small unit with a very big job. Should they put forth more money to get more people? Probably but right now there is only a small number for the job they have to do.

I wouldn't argue with that. Plus it's gotta be hard to investigate without any real ability to threaten someone to talk if they don't want to. They're not cops or anything.

What does that have to do with anything?

But while we're speaking on that, there's a big glaring contradiction to the justification of Smith signing with UCF that UCF fans tend to overlook. UCF fans all point toward our signing Bridgewater as a reason Smith would drop Louisville and sign with UCF (a fact Smith himself has denied). UCF fans also maintain that it was never promised that Godfrey wasn't going to be moved to another position. However if that's indeed the case, why would Smith turn around and sign with UCF if he KNEW he was going to be 2nd to Godfrey there? At least in Louisville he'd have a chance at the starting spot, and play at a school he had previously made it PERFECTLY CLEAR he wanted to play at. If he didn't make the starting lineup, he could've just as easily red shirted and been no worse off than he'd be at UCF. The "Bridgewater is the reason Smith signed with UCF" argument is completely ridiculous and false. Apparently, in Smith's own words, the reason he signed with UCF was "a business decision". I'm sure the NCAA's going to have a fun time deciphering what THAT meant...
