Former WVU NG Chris Neild just barely avoided becoming Mr. Irrelevant. He was the next to last player taken...

IMO the Redskins got a steal there...

Ok that makes 2.75 per team for the BE. It is better than both B11 and B12 and close to the ACC number. PAC-10 was also dominated by USC. BE talent wise is certainly on par with other BCS conferences. We can remove that excuse going forward.

The overall nuber is respectable, although most were taken on day 3.
Still much better than most predicted for BE.

Some here will always be glass half empty type. There is nothing you can do about that.

San Diego got a steal with Todman. I was really surprised Noel Devine did not get a sniff. His size, like Todman's, probably was the main reason. UCONN's Zach Hurd got hurt right before the combine and did not attend college all star game, that probably caused his stock to drop. One thing is you can take that UCONN recruiting class ranking and suck it. UCONN has been sending multiple players to the draft for number of years now even though we just started BE football in 2004.

RU, btw, was the only school without a player taken in the BE.

WVU's #3 ranked defense had 4 players taken. None of WVU's available offensive players were picked - including Devine...

I figure a couple should be able to land as free agents somewhere - if there's a season to be played. If not...

I gotta see Devine going somewhere. A roster spot is worth the type of speed and elusiveness that he has.

Devine was at the combine. But his size, and the dropoff in production during his senior year hurt his prospects. I'm sure he'll latch a job somewhere. He's too talented to remain on the sidelines...

RE: NFL Draft - BE POV
San Diego felt they got a steal. Todman's combine numbers blew away Mark Ingram's and Ryan William's. I still have no idea why Todman got dropped so low.

http://boltbeat.com/2011/05/01/a-late-ro...an-todman/

Quote:In order to fully appreciate what kind of numbers he puts up lets compare him to Top 2 RB’s drafted, Mark Ingram(1st round, pick 28) and Ryan Williams(2nd round, pick 6).
All 3 of these backs stand at 5’9″ and are close in weight. Todman-203, Ingram-215, Williams-212.

40 yard dash time: Todman-4.40 / Ingram-4.62 / Williams-4.59
Broad jump distance: Todman-126 / Ingram-118 / Williams-123
Bench press reps: Todman-25 / Ingram-21 / Williams-19
Vertical jump: Todman-38.0/ Ingram-31.5 / Williams-40.0
Shuttle time: Todman-4.18/ Ingram-4.62 /Williams-4.18

Now that we know that kind of physical athlete he provides the San Diego Chargers with, lets take a look at what he has done to prove himself as a legitimate starter on the field.

During his campaign with University of Connecticut:
Average yards per carry: 5.2 based on 616 career carries for 3,179 yards.
Total Fumbles: 0. Zero. None. Yes that’s right, in 616 career touches he never once lost the ball!
Touchdowns: 31 rush, 1 Kickoff return
Kick Return average: 25 yards. Based on 37 returns for 924 yards including one returned for a touchdown.

Awards he received:
-2010 Big East Offensive Player of the Year
-All-Big East First Team (2010)
-All-Big East Second Team (2009)
-ESPN.com All-American (2010)
-Rivals 1st Team All-American (2010)
-Sporting News 1st Team All-American (2010)
-AP 2nd Team All-American (2010)
-Walter Camp 2nd Team All-American (2010)

Neither do I. The production and combine numbers were there and he's a good kid.

More info on the Todman situation:

Most sites had Todman going in 2-3 rounds. He fell way too hard. Apparently SD really wanted him. They would have taken him in 4th if they had a pick. I think many GMs gonna seriously regret passing on Todman once they see the kid in action. He is a good kid who is just a beast on the football field.

Be happy he's on a good team with good management/coaching, as a runningback they usually only have a few good years and if they get picked up by a bad team it can sometimes be the only chance they get. I hated that Kevin Smith got sentenced to mediocrity by being drafted by the Lions 4 years ago.

Yeah it seems that most RBs only last a few years in the league now. They have a very small window to prove their worth needed for a long term deal and if you get stuck with a bad team for your style then you are pretty much out of luck.

I see Todman is very similar type pf runner like Ray Rice. They are about the same size too. I think SD is a great place for him since they really do run the ball unlike some teams like Colts for example. I just hope he can get some carries with Tolbert and Matthews ahead of him.
