Not basketball, but one of my favorite times of
year is here with the NFL draft. It's said that it's a bigger event than many of the actual sporting events. A lot of drama, and really interesting to see how accurate the Mel Kiper's and others really are in their predictions. If the Trojans aren't playing basketball right now, at least there's something going on that's interesting. Of course I'm getting into the golf scene now. I'd be more into it if the weather would just settle down.

That funny you should mention that. As a kid, I spent a lot of summers at our minor league baseball park and really kept up with the game, and coached Little League for many years, but I lost interest when the World Series strike took place. Since that time, I hardly pay any attention to the game. Plus, growing up prior to free agency, there were fewer teams, and the good players played most of their careers with one team. It made it easier to identify with teams. Anyway, the only baseball I even have a remote interest in now is my grandson's Parkview High School team. But other than watching him play, my interest is very low. I guess like most old timers, we want some things to be like they used to be. Who can forget the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants and Boston Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals! Oh wait. The St. Louis Cardinals still exist. At least there's a little of the old days remaining.

I also loved baseball as a kid. Biggest thrill ever was my friend's dad taking us to a Met's doubleheader. Two games, what could be better. Now I can't sit through a 9 inning game. I've been to a few Travs' games over the years, but I don't think I've ever stayed for a whole game.

I coach 13-15 year old summer baseball and have a couple of Parkview guys on my team. Small world.

Who are they? I'm sure my grandson will know them. He's just a tenth grader and plays mostly on the JV team. Plays second base mainly for the JV's and right field when he plays for the varsity. He loves it. Good fielder, but not much of a hitter. If he could improve his hitting he'd really be good. But he's grown a lot this past year and getting stronger, so by next year or two, he could be greatly improved in the hitting area. But he has fun, so that's the main thing. I don't think he'll be playing in the major leagues anytime soon.
