I have never heard that used in Kentucky. I have heard ridge runners, and stump jumpers.

That's because it's an old yankee derogatory nickname for hillbillies. Unless you go up north, you'd never hear it...

The term is still quite popular among the Pitt community. Check out the Pitt Scout boards and you'll see it as a common name for WVU fans.

I haven't spent much time around Pittsburgh lately. The last time I was in the area was right before my brother-in-law moved out of Pittsburgh. That was about 13 years ago...
