Surprised by that. Again, b/c there is already one Big East game that evening.

Cincy-USF, congrats, you're the 12pm Big East Network game that week.

The Friday night game kills WVU fans. That night is reserved for high school ball so tv ratings will be awful. As for the WVU/Marshall game on Sunday.....could work....looks like ESPN is setting up for no NFL this year.

Fridays do better than you think, but the real issue is that they decided to cannibalize two games on the same night.

Labor Day weekend. The NFL doesn't start until the following week.

Sez either ESPN or ESPN2...guess the better of the two BE matchups makes ESPN.

Matt...love it if you come over to the Scout Cuse Board and put in your two cents on the Cuse TV games.

All states/schools have highschool games on Friday, not just West Virginia/WVU....we are just having to sell out to ESPN wishes now.

I hope these moves are a sign that we are not buying into ESPNs move to move early on our next tv contract. I'll live with taking a hit from ESPN this year and possibly next if it means getting a sweet deal and timeslot from another outfit.

I fully agree that it smells like hardball tactics intended to get the BE to "play ball". Next couple years should be interesting...

Honestly...I never get this. Unless your kid plays on the dang team, who the hell passes up watching their college team for high school? Makes zero sense.

Absolutely. The WVU-USF Friday night game in 2007 drew the highest non-holiday Friday night ratings ESPN has had as I recall. People will watch Friday night college football and the ratings won't suffer.

Yeah, I don't think that factor would materially impact TV ratings. Even in places where there's a strong high school football culture, the number of people attending high schools games is dwarfed by the audience that's still at home. The concern with Friday games is more that it's always the lowest-rated TV night overall no matter what time of year and regardless of high school football (whereas Thursday is either the highest or 2nd highest next to Sunday), so you're drawing from a smaller pool of viewers nationally on Fridays.

Friday Night HOME games hurt far more than Friday Night road games...as virtually every team hosts 50-100 plus "unofficial" visiting recruits at every home game...and if a home game takes place on the same day/night as a recruits HS game, then they obviously lose the advantage of hosting unofficial visitors for said game.

However, thats a sacrifice many conferences will take...as it gets a game on national tv...as sometimes you have to take the good (i.e. TV $$$ and National exposure) and the bad (loss of a home game recruiting experience for most local HS players).

About half the HS Football games in Upsate NY are played on Saturdays. Those greedy high schools impeding on the sacred day of college football.

No doubt...but so few college football recruits come from the Northeast...as most HS Football in the South (even where many Northern College programs recruit) play their games on Friday nights (hence the comments about the difference between home and road Friday night games and the positives/negatives to them).

My high school was one of those b/c when they moved their games to another area of the city, they did not install lights for night games for several years.

I believe the BE also set Thursday night viewership records in 2006. So why did they move us off that day??

Maybe once we start killing Fridays, they'll move us to Wednesday??
