Maybe it's just me, but the name of this bowl reminds me of a porn company..."he was belking her hard last night and she LOVED it..."

They choose third in the Big East selection order, fifth in the ACC's order.

I'm willing to bet you that Belk will not be the sponsor come 2012.

You're right, no one has ever broken a contract before. We will see.

You're right, retailers never sign agreements that don't or can't complete, signed the landlords of circuit city.

What makes you believe Belk can't fulfill this deal? You brought it up, so answer besides the idea that no one's ever broken a contract.

Circuit City was a debt riddled mess. Belk isn't Borders either, which will likely be a relic in a couple years.

Didn't see Circuit City sponsoring any bowl games.

Circuit city was not a debt riddled mess two years before they went under, they died when the economy turned south and Walmart started expanding its electronics selection. Even Best Buy is hurting now because of this.
Best Buy

Borders is already gone and you're right Belk is not Borders but if gas prices continue to increase, retail sales will feel the pinch. You don't see retailers sponsor bowls, there is a very good reason for that.

I'd say that Amazon and other on-line electronics merchants have been even more impactful than Walmart. People have gotten very comfortable with shopping for electronics online and the price differences are usually substantial. Also, people have wised up about what a complete ripoff Best Buy's warranty and buyer-protection plans are. It's doubtful if a "big box" approach has a future.

If BB is to survive, i think it will have to reinvent itself as a completely online retailer, or else it will end up like Blockbuster did when confronted by Netflix and Redbox.

Two years before '08's bankruptcy Circuit City was already receiving bad financial reviews

While online retailers have gained ground, Walmart is the 800 pound giant and yes it was Walmart's impact. Walmart expanded the size of their electronic section roughly two year ago, you can see the timing impact almost exactly with CC's troubles.

You might be an on line type of guy but most people want to touch and feel their purchases and when you are spending hundreds or thousands of dollars, you want an easy return/repair type purchases, online will never give you that.

Back to Belk, I am not singling them out, I am saying retailers make bad bowl partners, the last one I can remember is Blockbuster, that did not end so well.
