That is part of the advantage of being the new coach. Coming in with a fresh slate is a huge advantage in some cases because there is no history...no complex decisions that have had to made. Such as if your best player is pouting, but benching him might cost you the game in a must win situation. Preston doesn't have that history for the players to remember. He can come in with a set of rules and be much more of 'my way or the highway'.

It will certainly be interesting to see how things play out.

Looks like a guy with a lot of potential/hype... but of course the article will be packed with good angles. I still think KSU made a good decision here, and we'll have to wait and see what actually happens. Any word on amount of salary they gave him (just out of curiosity)?

p.s. -- I agree you guys have talent too. All I saw KSU play last year was "street ball". Will be interesting if those ego's can handle the change. Like KB says though, they really have no choice.

It was reportedly between $165-190K. No word on any performance bonuses. At the high end, that would be 3rd in the conference behind Byrd and Bartow. I'm not sure where it would rank at the low end of that range.

I think he is a good direction to go. A high major assistant that is looking to take a shot as a head coach. In all likelihood if he is a great coach that means we will only have him for 5-8 years at most as he will be looking to move up in salary, but in our current status him being successful and moving on, means that we would be in a much better position to hire next time around.

Really Mercer fan? Street ball?

So how wonderful is your team/coach that leaves their feet on defense and can't win the conference tournament on their home court for the past 2 years?

Be nice. I think he pretty well summed up what we ended up doing - the players were pretty much making it up as they went. There was no discipline in the way they executed plays. In the end, KSU isn't playing up to its potential given talent. Once they start executing a system -- frankly, any system -- they'll immediately improve.

That's what I take away from the comment - I doubt he was trying to take a jab at KSU there.

He was taking a jab at Ingle. Which I personally don't appreciate, but oh well. No need in us rehashing the hurts of the past. Time to move on and look forward. Appreciate Ingle for all the great things that he brought our university. Allow jerks like Whitlock to focus on the past.
